Last summer I put down four coats of Shield-Crete Epoxy Concrete Garage Floor Coating and followed that up with a few coats of Shield-Crete Acrylic Clear Glaze.

I followed the instructions perfectly - everything was clean, I waited the appropriate time between coats etc..

Today when I was cleaning the floor (pressure washing)the Clear Glaze started to peel off. I live in Colorado and there is was ton of dried magnesium chloride on the floor as well as some spilled engine degreaser.

I'm not sure which led to the demise - but I would say the Clear Glaze only remains on 40% or so of the floor.

Any suggestions as to what to do?

Damn, poor guy got no responses.

Contact whoever you bought the stuff from and get their opinion. Maybe they will give you a break on more of their material. Maybe its the type of material that you need to recoat every year.

If you want it done right and never worry again, contact a certified installer in your area. Good Luck.

Yes, its a shame he did not and its hard to believe its been 10 years since he wrote and yet no one responded about the same product.

I am a contractor and I have always used oil based epoxy paint.

I just feel they are better. I was convinced at a brand paint store the latex epoxy was much improved through the years and offered several advantages.

Long story short, I followed all the instructions to the "T", closed the garage door for 4 days to dry, then read the directions to use Shield-Crete Clear Glaze , if using the Deco-Flakes provided (which I did), their Acrylic Clear Glaze was strongly recommended per instructions.

When I originally purchased the Shield Crete product, it was in a sealed box and I was trusting what I was told by the salemen, that everything in that box is all I needed.

When I went back to the products dealer and raised this issue with him, I was told, well you don't really need it, its just if you want the Deco-Flakes to last longer.

I am sure you know where I am heading with this. (why do something half-*** if you're not going to do it right in the first place, right?)

So, the sales person agreed to give me a break on the clear glaze, so I dropped another cash of wad down (credit-card).

When I returned to the garage (ready to apply the clear-glaze) and opened the door to inspect the floor, I noticed that a 3' section had some De-lamination/peeling/flaking, only in a 3' sq section. the other part of the garage floor appeared to have more absorption of paint then the other, thus did not appear to be even. Though, when I finished painting the floor, under 2 hours total, the floor looked even and great.

That being said, the manager was out of town the entire weekend and there was nothing the sales clerk could do or advise me on. i.e. can I sand down and feather in a 3' square section.

As you can imagine, I am very upset, it has cost me an additional 3 days of work, because there was nothing I could do.

I will let you know how this company handles it, but up until now, I have lost my faith on this Shield-Crete product.

Will get back to you and it won't be in 10 years either.

This is a follow up to my above post - I went back to the store and the manager took real good care of me. He replaced the Shield-Crete paint I had purchased and I scrapped and sanded down the peeled epoxy and re-coated it. It looks 100X better and I used the Deco-Flakes. Never figured out why a 2'x2' section peeled. He felt water had gotten on top of it, but can assure you it had not. The 2nd coat of Shield-Crete went on great and you cannot even notice the previously affected part.

Once Shield-Crete Epoxy Latex dries -I am choosing to go with Armorseal Rexthane Clear Coat moisture-cure urethane, VOC-complying, moisture resistant industrial floor coating. This urethane coating cures to a high gloss and chemical resistant film equivalent to two-part urethane coatings.

I am doing this because of the above experience from BreadandButter, his 1 and only post.

I would post pictures, but its hard on a site like this because you have to find a free web-hosting picture sites to provide a link of your photo.
