Shifting Motor Shaft?

Pardon my ignorance, but I was cleaning out my power steering assist motor and noticed that the shaft had a great deal of play to it.


Are there motors where the shaft is supposed to move laterally as it rotates vertically? I've never seen this before.

That shaft appears to have a machined pilot on the end that would reside in a supporting bearing when installed. show a pic of where in goes.

Yes, there is a spring loaded brass bearing that the end of the shaft nestles into


There's also a coupler that resides between the two sets of four teeth:


So, if I'm hearing you correctly, the brass bearing centers the motor shaft?
