Shipping - Is the third time the charm???

I ordered a new Craftsman top box last week. Griplatch - 18" deep - six drawers. It's to replace my current 12" deep regular slide top box. It was shipped UPS to my house with the free shipping last week that Sears was offering. I really liked the box and the price and it matched my current set up.
But hey - it can't be that easy. The first box came Tuesday at lunch. It went back to Sears locally that evening. It was totally unacceptable. Not just a small dent somewhere - the whole box was racked to one side. There was an actual tear - about 3/8" long on one side of the lid. So, after about an hour at Sears a new one was on the way.
It got here today (pretty quick actually).
It goes back tomorrow.

The box it came in is almost perfect. This top box, like the one before it, had weight applied to one top side to warp it into this shape. I don't know whether to blame UPS at this point or the carrier that shipped the boxes from the COO. Either way - I am extremely frustrated at this point. I'll order another one. Won't cost me any more than my time. I know there are other options for boxes - that isn't the point. I like the box and it will go with my existing boxes. I don't really want to start all over again with a new brand or even a new color at this point.

The box came packed with Styrofoam cushions like most things do. Funny thing is, I can't account for the dent in the bottom right of the box based on the cardboard box or the condition of the Styrofoam at that point. It really appears to me that at least some of the damage occurred before the box was packed.
It really is a relatively sturdy box. It weighs right at 100 pounds. It would take a lot of force to take that lean back out of it. I didn't start this as a Craftsman bashing thread - should be obvious since I ordered the box - nor do I want it to head in that direction.
It's a more than adequate box for me. And even if it was made out of aluminum foil I would expect at least one out of two boxes to be OK.
Every other Craftsman box I have is. At this point, I have 3 roll arounds, 2 project centers, one middle chest, and one top box. All of which were perfect when I got them at Sears. This is the first box that I have had shipped directly to my house.
My honest opinion is that UPS shouldn't be trusted with anything over 20 pounds.

Looks somewhat worse than a dropped-shipped (literally) Kennedy cantilever box I ordered online last year. After the second damaged box arrived I just gave up since they let me keep the first one. I wrote Kennedy a lengthy email questioning their total disregard for any packing material in the box, absolutely nothing except the actual thin cardboard box. Told them I had planned to order a bottom hutch but would cancel that order if they couldn't even handle a small toolbox, never heard a word back.
Lesson learned, buyer beware when ordering or shipping toolboxes online.

Maybe they dropped a whole container when they were unloading the ship. If the boxes looked ok on the outside nobody told anyone about it and here we are.

Life can be strange sometimes. What would appear to be a set back can actually eventually work in your favor.
See - I ordered this box as a compromise. I liked the 40" combo but wasn't willing to pay $999 for it. So I explored other options and settled on the single box that I ordered. I won't go into those details - too long a post.
So the second bad top box came in Friday night. I didn't take it back right away and order another one. Decided I would do that Sunday when they would be less busy than on a Saturday.
So I get up Sunday and discover that they have put the 40" combo that I really wanted on sale for the same price as a 26" combo that I was looking at originally - but only ended up ordering the top box.
If the first box they sent me had been acceptable then I wouldn't currently have the 40" combo in my garage.
Which is what I wanted to begin with.
So - they did me a favor by shipping me screwed up boxes :lol_hitti
