Has anyone shipped a vise from the EU or UK to the US, or vice versa? I'm trying to figure out the best way to get a 4 1/2 from the UK to the US. Best carrier/method? What's a convenient way to package it that won't be too much trouble for the seller?

Having received a vise (poorly packaged), that tried to escape from the box, can I suggest bolting it to a piece of wood the size of the box, so it can’t try to escape . Then fil the voids with packing material. I’m sure the other experts will be along shortly with more and better advise.

Before worrying about how to ship, get the weight and then an RFQ for the shipping cost. Having shipped car parts overseas, I can't imagine it being cost-effective to ship a vise from the UK. Unless it's something especially rare and valuable, it will cost more to ship than the vise is worth.

I use these people to move tools and stuff between England and New Zealand. Reasonable cost. Great service, no problems at all. They collect it, pack it, do all the admin and deliver it to destination.

I had a York vise shipped over from UK, the seller used UPS and the rate was reasonable (I checked what my cost would have been going the other way (USA to UK), and it was 4X what his was!).
