Shop Air filter / dust collector

I am looking to build a air filter / dust collector to hang in the shop, with replaceable filters (furnace filters). I have seen these things for couple hundred dollars, and would probably need two, or actually 3 to handle my shop. I am looking for info and suggestions from folks if they have built one.

I had an old furnace squirrel cage fan that I mounted in a wooden box with a plain furnace filter on it. I used it primary to move air around in the summer but it worked pretty good when I was cutting wood.
