Shop apron any one still use?

I have a Tillman suede welding apron I put a magnet onto so it hangs conveniently near my tablesaw. But I tend to use my lab coats more than aprons.

I have the one from Duluth Trading Company that I use for woodworking, a generic blue one for machining, and the leather one from HF for heavy grinding and welding.
I wear the woodworking and machining ones pretty regularly. I only use the welding one on occasion.

No but at home when working on a car or whatever I do like wearing my tool belt and stuff since my driveway is gravel I can’t wheel my cart outside so I use the belt to carry whatever I think I’ll need out.

That would take all the fun out of it. How can I light my shirt on fire grinding and welding if I'm wearing an apron?

I try to remember my Lee Valley apron when doing wood working. It is really a lot simpler to clean up when finished for the day. Especially if you are doing any sanding.
I have an old welding one if doing any dirty/greasy mechanical work. But I don’t always remember that one as often.

When I use the hand buffer to finish out paint work on cars, I always wear a bib style apron. Keeps my work clothes from getting slopped up with compound.
What does something like this cost?

I have a Duluth hanging on my bench. It's comfortable-decent straps. Dual length flap. Some of the nail pockets are hard to reach into.
Good if you are standing straight up at the bench. Working on boats, I do a lot of climbing, crawling, rolling, reaching and laying down. Any apron becomes almost useless than. I'll use it's good hanging grommet to keep it nearby as a tool holder.

I've got a lab coat, for when I'm dressed up, but I need to do some quick shoppish thing. Also have a welding jacket to keep the tickly things off. Regular grubbies are for everything else. Wouldn't want them to feel left out.
Couple hundred ... Go on the website -- little more today. Depends on the options and the leather choice. Both choices have grown since mine was purchased.

I use it sometimes.
You know what? It's nicer than the old clothes I wear when I'm doing stuff, so it's kind of counterintuitive for keeping matters protected.

Way back- a very long time ago, I worked as a ski tech. Mounting bindings, grinding, waxing, etc. Salomon gave us all aprons for working in. To this day, I still have that apron and use it for woodworking.

I have an original Mechanix apron. Jeff gave everyone on the GT1 team an apron and a pair of gloves when they came out. The gloves sucked (still do) the apron is OK, but the neck strap gets annoying after a while. I've been thinking of getting something more comfortable.

I use welding gloves as oven mits myself.
My denim aprons are more to easily shake stuff off than protect my shop wear. They are also good when wearing shorts as they are long enough to keep from getting weld flash or greasy knees.

I have an old denim one that I use sometimes. Also my dad's old lab coat that is appropriate on occasion. When packing up to move I found another new never used denim shop apron. What I like about the aprons is the pencil pocket that is only attached at the top, so when I bend over, it is still hanging vertically and the pencils don't fall out. Also have a set of coveralls for when I might get really dirty or greasy.
My Dad made my brother and I heavy leather aprons for welding/forging/hot work. Really nice and I do try to remember to put it on. I have a lightweight denim apron from Martin Guitars that I wear occasionally.
Not to highjack the thread, but how about mechanics coveralls? Anyone wear them? I was considering getting a set to try out.

I really like my Duluth apron. I only really wear it when woodworking, but the extra pockets are super handy and it does a good job of keeping glue and finishes off my clothes.

If this applies to you, make sure you can try them on before purchasing, or are able to easily return them if placing an online order. I know that I'm an outlier in that I have short legs for my height and very broad shoulders. Finding coveralls that don't pinch the family jewels or make me look like a fat guy in a little coat has been impossible. It's either that, or they are extremely baggy in the legs and midsection. Renting tuxedos is also a PITA, but thankfully that era has passed for the most part.

From working in machine shops for decades an apron was standard daily attire, I still use one now and then in the shop at home. For colder weather I don't like laying on concrete and I'll wear a cheap insulated bib coverall. Many times my attire depends upon what I'll get on me. If it's wood chips I like a nylon type of covering so the wood will simply bounce off. Hot metal chips stick/melt nylon so it's a denim/cotton apron. Outdoor mud gets whatever will hose off, machine/auto grease gets something I'd consider throwing out as I don't like using the washing machine I use for street clothes/bedding. If I'm painting or going into the attic around insulation I keep a couple of Tyvek type disposable coveralls handy and toss them when appropriate.

I did use and apron. As I got older, I had to make the tie straps on the apron longer to fit my waist. I do not wear the apron anymore.
For sure. Growing up, it was one of our favorite movies. I still watch it at least once a year.

Me too. My regular grubbies are jeans and a pocket t shirt. Unless it's cold. Then it's jeans and a long sleeve pocket t shirt.

I wear a heavy leather apron when forging. Other times I have welding coats that I had leather sewn onto the front in the high wear area.
