Shop builders...do I need this?

I have an 8x20' room built inside my shop, mainly to keep my welders and power tools out of the way (and locked up). It has a door and a threshold, and its getting to be a pain pulling the heavier machines over the hump. Any reason I can't get rid of it??

Nope, I didn't put them in when I did one doorway in the new shop for that very reason. I just put a long floor sweep on the bottom of the door.

That's just a pre-hung exterior door. Since its not exterior you could get rid of it.

Not sure. May be some anchors underneath the wood piece. Worst case scenario take a grinder to both sides and the middle will go away.

sawzall carefully to cut off the nails from the jamb to the threshold. careful and patience so you don't bung up the jambs.

Cut a section out of the middle (about 6" wide) then carefully remove each end.
You may be able to bend the metal part up in the middle instead of cutting it.

I have a room in my garage that I keep tools and paint and other stuff locked up and heated, so I didn't want the heat escaping. So what I did was cut the threshold straight down the sides of the jamb. Now when I have the heat on, the threshold stays in the doorway, and when I need to roll something in our out I just pull the threshold out of the way and put it back when I am done.

Before cutting off, check the jamb near the bottom area to make sure the original installer proper fastened the jamb to the studs behind it with finishing nails. If not, drive in a couple 12 or 16d nails
