I had morton buildings erect a 54x83 building for me, they insulated the sidewalls and skinned the whole building with metal on the inside as well as on the bottom of the trusses

its time for me to insulate the attic, and im trying to explore my options

1. hire someone to blow in insulation
2. go down to the box store and rent a blower, buy the insulation and do it
myself. with that option, what insulation is best for my application. the building will be heated with geothermal infloor heat so im looking for r38 minimum

3. ?

I'm thinking about putting styrofoam between my rafters, making a grid out of 2x4's using them like ceiling tiles basically.

Just a FYI.

Using the on line calculator I want to go from a R20 (estimate) to R40. The calculator said I need 185 bags of celulose. At 8.45 per bag it will cost me 1563.00 plus tax to do it myself.

I called a local well known company and they are going to do it for 800.00.

I haven't figured out how they can, but if they can do it cheaper than I can do it myself, then I'll sit and drink tea and watch.. :)

I basically have the same size Morton building in Missouri as the original poster and am weighing my options for ceiling insualtion. Open for suggestions and options, thought about sprayed foam, but not excited about a "mash potato" looking ceiling. Any ideas or pictures of what others have done morton ceiling insulation by others here would be appreciated. Thanks. Chris

jcabbbang - if your buildings steel is still under warrenty you might want to check with morton on what the warrenty covers if you use that spray foam. they shyed me away from it

I received a price of $2900 for blown in cellulose for an R39 and 3100 for R49 from a local insulation contractor

im thinking about blowing in the formaldehyde free white cottony stuff..any insight on that...?
