OK, so my wiring is done, almost done insulating, hope to start sheeting plywood in a few days. I'm thinking of using one of the bench light circuits for an exhaust fan instead since my main 'work-bench' area will be on the rear wall under the mezzanine.

Can anyone recommend an exhaust fan that will fit between the 2x6 studs?
Might be an idea for times I'm welding or whatever.
Thx
Will

Do it simple! All I did was a kitchen fan and light over the weld/paint bench. Easy to learn the filter too, or replace, but I just shake or blow the crud out. Works fine, going on 25 years too!

True exhaust fans are quite expensive for what they are but check Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD)

Or you can just buy the shutters and hang one of the super inexpensive box fans behind it (what I've done for over a decade).

But if you're trying to fit it between studs you could also look at the round ducting fans, just cut a circular hole in the wall.....one option at least

I put in a high cfm bathroom fan for a bit of ventilation. Simple to install, small penetration in the outside wall, and easy to insulate. Now it certainly isn't there to pull out stick welding smoke while the door is closed, but it's enough to keep the air turning over.

The 12" one would fit within my studs, hmmmm...

The mounting part is only 2" thick, I'd need to build a box inside the 2x6's to recess it to fit I think...

I hung a squirrel cage fan from my old furnace at the back wall up near the ceiling. I made a cover over the exhaust and installed four 4" adjustable elbows into it to direct the air where I wanted it. Read somewhere the squirrel cage fans need resistance on the outlet to run right. I run it on low speed and it moves plenty of air in my shop, some fan sound, not to bad.

get a shutter exhaust fan. They aren't that expensive and if you take @Ign advice to go to Amazon Warehouse there is this cheap one available now for $57.59.

12" exhaust fan

It would be hard to beat that kind of CFM for that price.

They call those fans with shutters barn fans around here. That was one of the first things I added to my shop. Rarely gets used but super handy when you need it.

I used one of the twelve-inch powered attic vents. but mounted on the wall up high and wired down to a switch to turn off and on
