I'm getting ready to submit these drawings to both the boss (aka da wife) and get a few quotes from contractors.
In the picture, you'll see my shop as it sits. It's got an open shed area that's got a caliche rock / dirt floor, and no fourth wall. I won't keep anything (important) in the area because, well, obviously it's not secure. Right now I keep my car hauler open trailer under there, and a couple of parts cars. The parts cars will go away.
Here's my thoughts...
Slab the floor, install (2) roughly 7 foot (that's ~ the height) 8' wide roll up doors. Have a contractor install all that (the doors, the new metal for the wall, and the slab). I'll move the caliche rock to the side of the shop and park the trailer there. Build a small cover to park the trailer under to protect it from the elements. Call it a "deck" for the kids to play on or something.
In the CAD drawing, I've drawn the "expansion" with a car parked in there (that's the size of my 79 Camaro, it's patiently waiting for me to get around to working on it again), a couple shelving units, and my lawn mower. I'd love to get the lawn mower moved out of my main shop... I'm constantly walking over it.... it's about 4 feet wide and at least 6 feet long (42" deck SCAG with a 2-wheel Velke sulky attachment). That's why I've got the funky offset on the garage door in that part... so I can scoot the Camaro to one side, and still get the lawnmower in and out.
No electrical work needs to be done (it's already got electricity out there), and it's just that one wall with the 2 doors, and the slab.
Think I can get it done in the $4k-$5k range?
Any suggested changes or thoughts?
The other half of the 'new' area is going to be for paint. I'll frame all that (the center divider, walls, etc) myself.
