Shop flooring over carpet

Not your conventional garage flooring post I guess.

We have a recently finished bedroom in our basement that is going unused that I would like to turn into a temporary work shop. The carpet is plush with a pad. One of my daughters will eventually call this their bedroom in about 5 years.

This space is going to be used for making eyewear, it will get somewhat dirty, but nothing like a wood shop. I am looking for a temporary floor solution to set two heavy receiving desks and equipment on.

I know I will probably need to put a plywood floor down, I am looking for suggestions for a temporary floor to put on top of the plywood that can hold the equipment, easy to clean, not super expensive, but looks nice and finished.

In about 5 years, this operation will either be moved to a finished shop or if we expand at work, in that location.

Thank you.

Can you pull the carpet and save it rolled up? I'd be concerned about moisture if you cover the carpet with something non permeable.
Otherwise, I'd just pick out some vinyl plank flooring, it's watertight and very durable.

Pull the carpet & pad, & store them rolled up. Any weight will leave permanent impressions if you leave them on the floor & put things over them.

If it was just for the summer I'd put a plastic tarp over the carpet, and throw down a few pieces of plywood in the walk areas. Might even tack strips of thin plywood over the seams to keep dirt and sawdust out.

But five years? Pull that carpet up!
