I remember that mimeograph fluid….it felt oily and had “that” smell. So that was kerosene based? I can practically smell it just thinking about it.
mimeograph fluid was alcohol not kerosene

Also fresh saw dust from cedar woods!
and I'll give another vote for gear oil being the worst smell, I despise of the smell of gear oil. It never fails that I get that **** in my hair rolling around on a creeper anytime it is being drained, I cannot wait to install a 2 post.
That old guy was a genius. Note to self, just keep old saw dust in some sort of container for future use.I remember a trip to the pet food store 30+ years ago. When our kids were small, the first pet in the house was a guinea pig. I bought cedar shavings for bedding. One morning I went down to the store to buy another bag of cedar shavings and met an old guy who said he buys them too even though he has no pets. He liked to hide away from his wife in the basement, drink beer, and once in a while turn on his table saw for a few minutes. He told me he sprinkled cedar shavings and sawdust around to make her think he was actually building something.![]()
