Shop/garage build with apartment

The shop will have a 30x50 RV garage, a 40x60 main garage, and a 800sqft room and bathroom between the 2. Top floor will have a 18x30 loft and a 30x40 apartment. There is a 1/3 acre pond that separates the shop from my house. Also- my neighbor is a 28,000 sqft castle.

Nice looking blue truck in the last pic! the shop/house looks like it will be pretty fantastic. Where are you located? General area is OK.

Northern California just outside of Sacramento. The truck belongs to one of the framers

Here you go. I’ll have lots more to post as work gets done. I’m the GC for the build. Already had a hell of a time with my cement guy. Had to fire him and get another guy to fix his mistakes. I’m sure I’ll be posting learning lessons along the way as well.

What's the plan for closets and storage? I don't see any linen, bedroom closets or kitchen pantry. Great build!

No pantry. Bedrooms will each have a closet. The laundry area is being widened a few feet to accommodate shelves for linens.

Framing finished up and roof is on. Windows and doors will be going on mid December. Had issues with the foundation guys and had to take out a bunch of his work to fix things. Learning a lot being the GC for this build.

Still coming along. Getting some detail work knocked out. Electrical and plumbing is finishing up now. Windows and doors go in next week.

We already have a house on the property with an attached garage. We don’t have any spare rooms though, and the garage is full of storage and bikes and equipment to maintain the yard. The apartment will provide 2 spare bedrooms that friends or family can stay in and we don’t have to worry about our babies waking them up in the middle of the night. I figured if I was going to build a shop this size and already needed the height for an RV garage, I might as well add the 2nd floor apartment.

Amazing space and beautiful location. Can't wait to see it finished. You are a braver soul then me acting as your own GC on a build of that scale.
I am a licensed contractor with almost 20 years in my trade and I still hired a GC to build my shop. I didn't want to be the cat herder for any amount of money.

Also: Shaking my head at the neighbor's 28k sqft house. I work in houses that size and to me they just seem like a long walk and a lot of unutilized space.

Now a 3,000sqft house with 25,000 sqft of garage? That I could do.

Being that I moved (kind of) far from my family and my wife's family, if I were ever to build my dream shop, this is exactly what I would do!! An apartment on top, so family and friends can use while they are here visiting, without being bothered (wel... without bothering me really, lol!!).

Great progress so far, I'm really curious to see what the garage is gonna look like inside, aswell as the apartment! Keep us updated on everything please! I'm loving it so far!
