Thrift store pants, shirts, etc. are typical for me. If it's a really greasy project, I do have some coveralls (not jumpsuits!) from back when I worked in places where they were used. Hmmm, ya know what? A jumpsuit with the built-in footies might be kinda nice for those colder days. Think I'll pass on the goat though, what with the popularity and accessibility of Youtube. Don't want to be famous, especially for that.

Speaking of thrift stores and Youtube, thought this video was hilarious (but definitely ****!):

Same here... I buy a bunch of larger clothes that will fit over my regular clothes for grease work... When they hit the Schlimer Costume State; they get tossed... Cheaper than farting around trying to clean Schlimer clothes..

The commercial uniform companies have special equipment and solvents for cleaning shop clothing and grease rags.. John Q. Homeowner and his Maytag washer are no match.

OOOh, too bad I can't unsee that. It is ApexSpeed green, though. Might have to think about selling those on the website. :D

Dickies Coveralls. $36 or so. They last forever.

That said, I still regularly ruin good clothes out there. This is just a quick job. It'll only take a few minutes. I'll be careful. Etc.

I haven’t got to the bib overalls point yet.
But it is the next stop.

Since I am long wasted (short legs, long torso) I have used overalls to protect my back from the cold.
But I just cannot hike the overalls up and over my shoulders anymore.

So far extra tall shirts have been enough to cover my crack.

I generally buy Carhartt jeans to work in or everyday wear. Then just a plain old t-shirt and a sweat shirt. If I'm welding or doing some welding fab work, I wear my green welding jacket.

I recycle my "nice" clothes. Once dress shirts/chinos get worn or frayed they're relegated to garage clothes. This way if they get really greasy/oily I don't feel bad just throwing them out. Same with "good" jeans.

I did get some working-man work clothes at an industrial supplier closeout sale last year. I think it's cool to have flame-retardant reflector-striped work shirts and pants next to faded dress shirts and chinos. It gives me the option to be a very well dressed slob in my garage. :)

I do want to try a some coveralls though. They would come in handy for those quick garage jobs instead of completely changing clothes.

Carhardt overalls and love them.

They are finally starting to show some wear but they are going on ten years.

Up top it's just old shirts that I keep in a box.

Since I met you guys I have been spending quick a bit more time in the garage and getting some stuff done. I am still a ways away from what I would call proficient but I am ruining alot of clothes! Guess that is a start. :)

Wall Mart has cover alls.

Get two sets-that way you still have the other set to wear when one set is getting washed.

I think the brown ones are for woodworkers and the blues are for mechanics.

The browns seem to be a bit heavier.

No Wall Mart flames here please,I"m just trying to wreck fewer cloths.

I always hesitated with buying stuff from Duluth but boy am I glad I finally pulled the trigger. Their firehose work pants are amazing and the gusset in the crouch is incredible. They are so comfortable and when you spill something on them, DO NOT spot treat them just wash them and the stain is gone! 15W-40 on the thigh just washed right out. You can check them out here. They are worth every penny. The flannel lined ones are so warm they will make your legs sweat.

I love my duluth pants; Im buying more clothes from there as it fits the budget.

I was so amazed with the crouch (I prefer Crotch) gusset that I ordered a couple sets of their buck naked boxers; we'll see if its as amazing on those too!

i've seen a couple places locally that sell used "work clothes"

if the OP is in a heavily undustrialized area, you may want to look around in some the "bad" areas of town, thats where these places seem to pop up
