I'm needing some input from y'all.
I've played with my shop layout for a while. Was pretty settled on a layout, but now second guessing myself.
Due to property layout and future plans, I'm now thinking instead of putting doors on the longer (length) wall of shop, I should spin it 90* and have door/s on the short wall. I'm also considering shrinking/ removing the 30' lean-to.
shop is going to be ~45x70, may grow or shrink depending on layout.

For those of you that have a shop between 2300-5000, would you mind posting a pic (or link to) of your shop and layout?

Any help appreciated.
Thanks,

my only comment would be if you want to expand later, how would you do it? to the right, then maybe put the out portion on the other side, or out the back or front, maybe turn the building 90 degrees? It is a big building so that suggests big plans, will you outgrow it?

That size, I would have OH doors on opposite ends for pull thru of trailers, boats, anything that needed shop time.

In the current configuration i have it drawn 45x70 shop w/ 30' leanto. The East bay will be drive through, center bay for long term project/s... South wall behind centerbay will be workbench/ tool storage. lathe, drill, mill along interior wall. The sectioned out portion would be designed as a mother in law suite, but would be used as a home office/ outdoor kitchen. Dirty work/ metal fab would be done under leanto behind center bay. Future expansion would be by closing in the leanto. That area would probably become the machining area.

Whether the shop length runs E/W or N/S, it'll have doors on the North and South walls. It'll also, more than likely, be spray foam insulated. I like my E/W layout, but am trying to design an alternative N/S layout, including some sort of outdoor kitchen/ MIL suite.

I'm also considering building a tractor barn, which would somewhat negate the need for as big of a lean to. I have ~6 tractors, mostly antiques, that are in various states of repair/use/ restoration along w/ two mid-fifties international trucks.

Is there a certain direction where wind hits and collects leaves? Surrounding objects could make a wind tunnel/funnel which I would look out for. My garage/driveway faces east and collects all the leaves on my street which then pushes into my garage when I open the doors.

One thing to consider is that the more doors you have the less space you have against a wall for tools, work surfaces, and equipment. They can really chew up your real estate. Just my $.02 though. I know if I had 3000 square ft to play around with I would probably have one 14 foot wide door and then maybe a standard door very near just to have an access point that doesn't include rolling a door open.
