I have just finished the basic wiring of my garage that I plan on using as a wood shop. I am now onto the lighting portion of my project and have been doing a lot of research but still don't feel confident in my decision.

My shop is 24'x24' with 8 ft ceilings. I plan on putting up sheet rock with a grey paint, light grey epoxy floor. I have access to 8 ft light fixtures that were recently taken out of an Office Max that was being remodeled. The balasts (model #qhe 2x59t8/unv isn-sc) are T8 with single pin fixture with two bulbs for each fixture. I would really like to use these fixtures as they are already sitting in my garage and I would be able to use the savings for my flooring.

I am having difficulty coming up with layout and a decision on bulbs. There is a 16 ft garage door where I will not be able to put any lights unless I buy recessed. The garage will only be heated when I am in there, I live in northern Minnesota so this is an important consideration regarding min start temp. The balasts that I have have a min start temp of 0 F.

I have been looking on 1000bulbs.com and single pin bulbs run around $10 each for 4100k with 85 cri or $7 for 5000k with cri of 80. At this point I am thinking about putting up a total of 8 fixtures total of 16 bulbs.

Comments, suggestions, or layout ideas would all be greatly appreciated.

Use them. Do 4 rows of 2 fixtures each for a medium amount of light. A fewMore if you'll be doing actual work in there. I wouldn't buy 8' bulbs off the internet, cuz shipping them is dicey. Last time I checked, UPS wouldn't even handle them (too long).
Go to a local electrical supply store or a Home Depot-ish place to get them.
good luck

Do these fixtures have reflectors? (Not recommended for 8ft ceilings)
Are you painting your ceiling grey? (Ceiling White is strongly recommended)
Start temp is lamp dependent. see ballast spec sheet here.
Some form of lamp protection, such as shatter resistent bulbs, are recommended at 8ft mounting height.
Most bulbs purchased online are only sold by the case (24 per).
What's the fixture make and model number?

I wouldn't use the 4100K I'd use the 5K, the difference is like night and day.
