The last time I installed tubes I used the daylight color (6500K?).
If I'm working on something I want BRIGHT LIGHT.
If I'm smooching on something I want dim light.

Does each 8' fixture have 4 T-8 tubes? Is it no reflector fixtures mounted at 14' plus?
If so, then replacing the bulbs with LED conversion won't get you any more light but will get a lot more light down where you need it. If they are all above 14', you could even go to clear lens conversions.

Lumens ... it's the lumens. You can have just as many lumens at various colors (3k/4k/5k/6k)
A particular bulb may have more lumens at a given color .. but it's the lumens that determine the level of light
GRB, yes 8' fixtures, 4 bulbs per fixture. No reflector. I'm not looking to replace bulbs and going LED. Sorry for not being clear on this.

My thought was 4 per rafter, 3 rows, and a couple extra I could turn on when the door is open to eliminate shadowing.
As of yesterday I have some samples coming in to play with similar to the above.
Will post up pictures on specs when I do.

Those lights are designed to update old style high bay lights, generally hung more like double the 14' you are talking about. How high will these lights be mounted? Those are designed to be hung from the ceiling as they need cooling. Generally have lots of failures due to heat as that design doesn't cool well. Good ones of that style are fine and I've used them but never lower than 24' lamp height. Unless your design is very different than what I'm thinking, you won't be happy. You said 14' tall building. Does that mean 14' walls with a peak in the middle that is much higher than 14'?
