In the garage I have a Bose Bluetooth that I stream to from the phone. In the basement. I have an usb computer speakers that I plug the phone into. The unfinished portion of the basement backs up to the finished portion. I need to run a 2nd set of speakers to the unfinished side.

Onkyo receiver, Onkyo turntable (yes, I spin vinyl in the garage sometimes) with a Grado cartridge, Panasonic DVD player for the CD's. Sound comes out of an old pair of DCM Time Windows hidden behind a couple of Kawasakis. All found on Craigslist, except the Grado. Sounds bitchin'.

I use a SounDesign stereo receiver with speakers that my folks had in the family room back in the 1980s. It picks up the local radio stations quite well, which is all I really listen to anyway.

It still has a cassette player on it (don't know if they actually work), and I know I have a record turntable that goes with it here somewhere in storage.

Picked up an old Kenwood amp and Rotel tuner on ebay, and wired in a selection of door speakers to the walls (literally, in the walls). With some attention paid to the cavity volumes of the mids and base units, it sounds good. Perhaps not audiophile good, but I no longer (if I ever did ) have golden ears.

Sony STRD 315 receiver I picked up at an estate sale for $25. 80 watts per channel. Small chassis fits on the shelf. My old Marantz is too big.
Powering 4 Advent Marbl 2-way indoor outdoor speakers mounted in each corner of my 20x20
Total cost including 100' of speaker wire was just under $100

Some old boombox one of the kids left behind... Most days I just open the doors and listen to the grass grow and the wind rustle through the trees. On a good day the birds sing to me.

Sony bookshelf unit from the mid 90's that was my step up from a pos boombox. Remote no longer works but the 5 cd disc changer still runs fine. I'm slightly amazed it still functions.

I mostly use my Milwaukee M12/18 bluetooth speaker. Didn't need the charging function for an extra $50-70. I mostly listen to podcasts or music through Spotify. If I need a local radio station I use iHeartRadio or some app on my phone.

A couple years back my wife got me this as a gift, and I've been using it since. Turned up loud it does a nice job of filling up the shop w/ sound. It can run off a battery and when I'm working on a project outside I'll bring it near and throw a battery in, otherwise in the shop it's plugged into the wall.

This was before bluetooth, so I use an Aux jack to run spotify off my phone.

Here's mine. Built from stuff I had. I can Bluetooth or go directly in. Serves as my test bench as well. Two 12 inch subs under the bench.

I keep an old boom box in the shop. Once in a while I will actually plug it in and listen to it. But; there are radio commercials that make the sound of silence priceless.
Being My house is attached; the house stereo can be enjoyed as it plays chosen cds.

I am using a Bosch PB360C since a couple of years now.
It is kinda pricey but the sound is great and I never had an issue.
From time to time I am working in a different garage so I can just take it with me without any problems.
You can charge Bosch batteries, plug in your Iphone or Ipod and listen to your own stuff at the same time.
It comes with a remote, so you can turn up the volume if your feeling the song just playing (comes in handy, so your neighbours can enjoy some AC/DC whether if they like or not) :bounce::rocker:

Amazon echo dot, plugged into some old Cambridge Soundworks speakers.

Voice control with Amazon Music Unlimited. It's great to be able to ask for almost any genre or artist, and pause, change volume, etc without having to dig into your pockets or wipe your hands.

I use the Dewalt worksite radio in the shop. Use it inside the shop and nice to be able to throw it in the mule when working around the property.

I also use an elderly GE Superradio II. They designed that sucker right. It really has a wonderful tuner. What's the point of amplifying distorted sound?

Of course, I only use it to listen to ballgames and/or sports talk shows.

A lot of the young guys have never in their lives listened to an actual radio.

I like to listen to podcasts when I'm working in my shop. I got a cheap radio that has a USB jack on it. I plug my thumb drive into the radio and play podcasts that I have downloaded. Car Talk is a favorite :)

I believe this. I'm also not sure how I feel about it.

I suppose my Grandfather would have been a little sad at the thought of younger generations who've never ridden on a horse. OTOH, he appreciated automobiles and didn't own a horse--but he'd had those four-legged experiences.

Given the quality of radio programming, I don't listen to radio any more, either. I am aware of the death of decent programming which went away before Reagan left office, and was becoming rare before then.

I use an old first generation iPad. The Wi-Fi works fine from the house and I use Pandora for the music source. It is plugged into a cheap set of powered speakers. Just music, no radio for me.

It works great.

I got a Bose Soundtouch 20 for my garage. It was the simply choice for me because it's a streaming device that also has Bluetooth for when I want to listen to something on a phone or tablet. And since it's streaming, it can play virtually anything from internet radio to terrestrial radio stations online. And that's key for me because I moved from NY to South Jersey recently and I want to continue to listen to the same stations that I grew up listening to. A bit bonus with the Bose SoundTouch is that it has one-touch presets, so you can use it like a regular radio and not have to mess around with any other device.

And the Bose unit has surprisingly good base and good sound overall that easily fills up my 3-car garage, even at less than 50% volume. I'm very happy with it overall.

A lot of the young guys have never in their lives listened to an actual radio.

I remember listening to Casey Kasem and the Top 40 countdown back in the 80's... :)

Now I don't even bother with radio stations... Too many commercials, reception is horrible out in the middle of nowhere (when driving), and if they are playing a song I don't like I can't skip it...

In my garage I just have a two-speaker with a sub that was meant for a PC, it's connected to a bluetooth thingy so I can connect my phone to it and I usually just stream Pandora... Sometimes I will stream TV (via uverse app) just to listen...

I had an old boom box from about 1986 that I used in my woodshop area of my basement for years. It was the model that had dual cassette decks in it, so I didn't even have the fancy pants cd's...

Anyway, your post made me laugh because I had to do the exact same thing to mine! I could tell when it was time to blow the dust out of it because the volume would slowly drop down to nothing. A few quick shots from the air compressor and it was good to go for another year or so.

After about 20 years it just gave out and no amout of cleaning could get it to keep the volume up!

12 year old Sony receiver. Listen mostly to NPR or a classic rock morning show if I have the day off from My J-O-B. For music, my iPhone is hooked in via input jack. Speakers were found in a house I renovated like 14 years ago. Also hooked up to a small Marshal guitar amp for when Rage or Sabbath or Johnny Cash come around in the rotation.

I have an older receiver and 4 Bose speakers, 2 large and 2 small. I live in the country so I don't have a lot of station choices. I also get a lot of interference when the garage lights are on, so I just plug my iPod into the receiver most of the time. This works great for me anyway, no commercials and all the music I like.
