I have one of those little retro looking mini fridge/freezers in the shop that have a tiny little freezer tray inside the fridge. Have had it for some years, and it looks like it pooched over the weekend. So I am on the hunt for a new fridge. I would like a little more freezer room, so I can store my ice packs, instead of keeping them in the house. I don’t really keep a lot in it, generally no more than 12 long neck bottles, maybe some water bottles, so it doesn’t need to be huge. I prefer compressor units rather than Peltier units.

Any ideas?

I have a small Kenmore in my garage, no freezer though, and it's about 18-20 years old hasn't skipped a beat. Not sure who made them for Kenmore but it's been a good unit.

Find an oldie but goodie on C/L and paint it up to look like a gun safe or rollaway. That would be one use for those SnapOn emblems that are all over ebay that end up on US General toolboxes. 😖

Or a US General emblem that so often just “fall off” of a HF box. :)

What they call apartment size would have enough freezer room. Those little 3' high units don't have much freezer room and it's not separate as you know. I have a 42" high dorm fridge and it has maybe 8" high (net) of freezer behind a separate door.

Free is best👍 I am helping my buddy load up a storage unit that he is moving back to Texas. He is giving me a new white french door fridge for helping him out and he doesn’t want to move it 😁

Fridge for your beer ?

Isn't Hamm's supposed to be kept in the cold river ?
I believe that might be Coor's Beer...Hamm's "from the Land of Sky Blue Waters"...

Besides the St. Croix River is due east about 3.5 miles...too far to go for a Beer.

Just something to keep in mind if you're looking at older used fridges - efficiency. Be aware of potential higher running cost on older equipment. 10 years ago, I replaced a "perfectly working" fridge/freezer from mid 80's. The old fridge was costing almost an extra $30 / month to run vs. new (confirmed with power meter before and after). Don't know if it was just leaky seals or what, maybe could have improved for not too much money. But ended up getting a new $1000 fridge - paid for itself in 3 years.

I would look for one with a real, separate freezer. They do exist in dorm-size units, just have to look. The crappy freezer compartments inside fridges always just ice up

I’ve had the dorm units. In fact I still have one in the garage, but prefer the small apartment size, maybe 5’ tall, for the shop.

I picked up a stainless Kenmore apartment sized unit from the local Sears Hometown store and it’s been fine for the past five or so years. Big enough to use as overflow every time the Samsung in the house breaks down!

I think LG was making Kenmore branded refrigerators at the time.

I got rid of my shop fridge. If anyone is going to be over beer goes into a cooler. I just found that I wanted the space more than having an at hand fridge.

I’ve got one of these (I think it’s branded Magic Chef) in our shop apartment. It was under $400 when I bought it and has been great. I’ve got an old side by side someone gave me in the shop and I figure I’ll get another one of these when the old one finally quits working.

I have a dorm unit that my daughter brought back from college. There's a little freezer, but its not really useful space. I did paint it and clean it up. Keeps beer cold.
In the basement I bought a retro looking one at HD that was pretty reasonable.

I went to PC richards and got a brand new but scratched and dented unit cheap. Small pit in the center of the door.

I have done much worse to it since it arrived 7 years ago.

I think an old fridge is one of those things a good garage must have. That, and a drill press that could be older than you. My first attempt failed with a compressor that died after a few months, currently rocking a late 1940's Frigidaire.
