Hello everyone,

First post here!

I am researching automotive shop scan tools and looking to replace my current Snap-on Verus. It is getting old and outdated and our local snap-on rep is lousy.

Im looking for recommendations for a very strong scan tool for our shop. I need access to a wide range of makes/models and access to the newest software available to get into the 2017 and newer stuff.

Such a tool probably does not exist yet but a scan tool that integrates into a laptop would be ideal.

I am also looking for a package that includes J2534 capabilities for ECM re-flashing.

Currently on my list is the OTC unit from Mac Tools (not sure on model #), the Autel Maxsys Elite, Drew Technologies Cardaq-m (though this may only have J2534 functions)

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Looking forward to spending some more time on this forum as well!

I would take a hard look at Auto Engenuity,. The interface takes a little getting used to but it is a very powerful tool and their tech support is top notch!

Trade your verus for a verus edge, buy into the subscription program so its always updated and you won't have to rely on your dealer. If you want, an autel scanner will compliment the snap on, each can do things the other can't. The edge is extremely fast, has the troubleshooter, its data graphing blows the autel away, and of course it has the 4 channel scope. If you're serious about programming, buy the drew tech and its own laptop.

GTA Matt saved me some typing. With a 10k budget that's exactly what I would recommend. The Verus will fix a lot of cars, the Autel will fill some holes, and Drewtechs capabilities get bigger every year as in short term subscriptions for GM, Honda, Toyota and some euro ****. The Ford IDS is reasonable and very useful if you have any cash left over.
