Shop sketch input

Hey all, just finished the rough sketch of my shop. Any input on the attached pictures would be appreciated. Dimensions are going to be 36x48x14.5 stick built, 5/12 trusses.

skylights instead of windows for security.

^^^ and for more open wall space. Also- I'd spec the truss design to include usable attic space (never have enough space). And on that note- as everyone always says- go bigger if you can.

Attic or loft trusses will gain a lot of space upstairs like jav said.
I would cut down on the windows also, even if it's just for security. Keep a couple but have them visible from the house.
Is the man door on the opposite end of the overheads a good thing? Where is that in relation to the residence?
Any plans for a hoist? If so you may want to re-orient your doors to the long wall to gain more working room around it.

Never thought about a skylight, I like that idea.
The reason for the man door on the end is because it faces the house and will be the main access from residence also a future patio area.
Yes I am planning on putting in a two post lift.

If I went with attic trusses how would I gain access? 14.5' attic ladder?

No height restrictions. The roof pitch is 5/12.

The skylights are cool until you add in a ceiling. Then its going to be a heat chimney up to a cold piece of glass which can condense moisture and subsequently rain...

I feel like a window can be made more reliably water resistant than a skylight.

Security...I would make metal cages for the windows.

Even though the lean-to seems like an easy post -frame I would pay attention to getting wood up and out of the ground for the verticals. Like via a permacolumn or other moment-bearing concrete footing.

No zoning? Really? What jurisdiction?

In that case, make the pitch at least 6/12 and the slope one continuous one from peak to outside face of covered areas.

I would go even steeper and higher and get a second story.
