@MushCreek , do you have an old smart phone? That's what I used for a few years. Just connect to your wifi and then use whichever music app you want, don't need cell service on that phone.
No, I don't have an old smart phone. When I use my current phone, both the phone and the speaker go through the batteries pretty fast. I think I'm going to resurrect my old laptop and connect the speaker jack out to an old receiver and speakers I have. Should get me going for nearly nothing. The problem is that I can't remember why I ditched the old laptop....
I knew the old Aiwa system I had been saving since the 90's would come in handy again someday as I use it in my 36 x 48 shop once built. Was able to add bluetooth to it by connecting an alexa device so I can play music from my phone (don't have wi-fi at the shop but have unlimited data on phone). It's nothing fancy but didn't cost me anything since I had both the stero and alexa laying around and it can get loud enough when I want it to but also allows me to listen to local radio stations that don't stream when I want to listen to a game.
This is timely for me. I just picked up an old sony surround sound setup from my inlaws. 4 small speakers for mains and a powered subwoofer for lows. It was run by a Yamaha RX-V373 receiver. I plan on using an alexa to play music. Luckily I'm just in a 2 car attached garage. Hopefully the speakers are loud enough for me.
Now to figure out how to keep the sawdust out of the receiver...
