Gotta say the bike seat stools came crom others and I liked it. My kids raced bmx and would break frames and sometimes they would just be weak from use needed something to use them for.

I rigged this thing up one day after my back was aching from the old wooden bar stool I had. Its a 50's office chair that had fallen apart and was headed for the scrap pile. I added a section of old drive shaft as a riser and a foot rest. Its been in the shop now for about 25 or so years.

Some very creative ideas in this thread. I am not that energetic, though; I have had several different stools over the years, and have given them away, or left them behind. I have a couple, now, that I got from Northern Tool and Harbor Freight. Both are of the current crop of pneumatic cylinder type; the one from HF has gone flat, won't hold up to full height, and that is the main complaint I have about the "new" stuff - they go flat after a while. The adjustable ones we used to have back in "the day" had those indestructible Acme thread stems on them, and I wish I could find one with that again.

I have a bad back, so the most important thing for me is having a backrest and having the height compatible with the height of the work surface. I have an office chair at my kitchen table, and that is what I am going to have in the garage, with a utility table the same height as my kitchen table.

I'm liking this stool and of coarse the drafting table. Spent most of my high school career in the drafting classroom.

I have seven of these. The lady that owned the building where the pool hall was downtown gave them to me. She was a customer when I had my auto shop and was a friend of the family. At least 2-4 of them will be put in the garage when I get the lounge area done. I have a modern padded swivel stool in the shop area. The picture makes it look bent, but it isn't.

Seems like that might have been a guess, but you are correct. The hanger on the bottom of the seat is where they put their purses. My grandmother was an operator at the local telephone company back in the day we have a few of these floating around our family

We had a meeting of the big wigs at work. One of the guys in the conference room leaned back in the office chair and fell over. After that all the chairs were swapped out for 5 legs instead of four. Didn't come from the work floor but they got the bonus award for coming up with the idea.

Most everyone took their 4 legged stools home with them. Mine ended up at the little league in the score booth.

Thought I show you guy's the work bench stools we started making today....

Fortunately we have orders for 8 of them now.....

We are just recycling our Mobil 1 Keg Barrels..... and they make great stools and tables and Garbage Cans....

Anyway after a bit of TLC and a lick of paint, a new seat base and a trip to the upholsterers I am pretty happy with the result.

I had a decent hydraulic stool from Costco. I moved it to the bar when I got the "no personality" Craftsman hydraulic stool with a backrest. The only thing I don't like is the square foot rest. It really needs to be round to be usable with may bad knee. I'm hoping to stumble across something older with a little more appeal.

I have a creeper seat that is always in my way that I was thinking would make a good stool for the workbench. Any ideas on ways to elevate it about 2'? Something that would also not get in the way. I doubt I could attach any folding legs to the underside but it might be possible.

Here's my latest stool.

Found it a used office supply place. All his good stuff was on display. In the back under a workbench I found this stool. The guy said he could clean it up for me. I could reproduce the look it has now, why bother messing with it at all.

That's a classic. My in laws had one in yellow. Found the one below at a garage sale. Not as sturdy as yours. Note the bottom step has the frame attached so when you open it up the stool looses it's support.

We picked up that same stool at the flea market this summer. And to my surprise, the chrome legs appeared after the first round of oven cleaner. I plan to finish it over the winter and the wife requested red... which should really pop with the chrome all exposed again.

Awesome! There was an identical yellow one to those at my Grandfather's house in the kitchen when I was younger. Oh, I wish I had enough foresight to pick out some stuff before the auction when Grandma passed away. I was just a little too young to appreciate this stuff at the time.
