I recently bought an old Sun wheel balancer from the local HS.

Included with the balancer came a bunch of fairly new appearing wheel weights, with an "FR" code on them. I'm new to the game of tire changing/balancing at home and cannot find "FR" in any of the online suppliers or sources.

Anybody know what an "FR" wheel weight is equivalent too ? I've sent emails to various suppliers and have got nothing back...

Thanks

Some weights (good weights) are shaped and hung in the back for specific wheel lips, FR may be an identifier as to which alloy wheels they'll fit according to a chart issued by the manufacturer of the weight. Steel wheel weights are usually unpainted, rounded and have a round hole in the hanger, while alloy wheel weights vary in design but are usually painted. I like peel and stick weights myself.

I'm familiar with the various "codes" that are molded into the weights...at least what I've found online...certain weights (MC, FN) fit certain rim profiles. These weights are like any other...they do have the weight in ounces and grams, but have the "FR" code and I've had no luck in finding any info online. Wondered if it was an older weight...

FR: Flange Rib - the area above the bead of the tyre that acts as a protection for the outer lip of your alloy wheel against light contact with kerbs etc.

Sounds like it might be what you are asking about. Likely for those PITA alloy rims with next to no flange on them to set the weight into. Probably closest to an AW or ALC in profile.
