Shop tv's galore

I have 4 analog tv's in shop & 1 converter. Every time someone in my household get a new flat screen, the perfectly good tube tv gets relagated to my shop. What do you guys do with extra analog tv's that don't cost money?????

Well hell i thought i was the only one with 4 tv's in my shop i have them set up on wall bracket's in the back and on corner shelf's in the front.Along with the surround sound it's surround tv.

I have an older Polaroid flat panel in my master bedroom... we got it free from my GF's mother when her little brother got a new TV. One day it'll end up in the garage. It's a 20" screen give or take, never measured it.

I just got my first free shop tv from my sister the other day. They where chucking it cuz they bought a flat screen on boxing day. I haven't planned on more, but now thay you got me thinking..... maybe a whole wall of tvs on the same channel like in the stores...?

Way better than in the trash. Try taking them to the salvation army there's many people who could benefit from your generosity.

The real problem here is that everything went digital..making any analogue TV worthless without a converter (not big deal)...and in our area...a roof antenna. (big deal).

When my Mother moved, I got her a new flatpanel for her kitchen...and I got the big tube set. When we built my detached garage...I buried every type of cable I ever thought I'd need while the ground was open....so Mom's older sizeable tube set got wall mounted with a cable box in my garage.

Here the Salvation Army will not take Electrical items. Be aware of that before you offer it to them other wise it may just go to scrap.

toss em up on craigslist in the free section if no friends or family have any use for em. Or of course if your own needs don't need another for the man area. Its nice to give something like that to a person or family that is not in such good financial situation.

The one 'extra' analog that we had has been set up for my little one's game station.

I just picked up a usb tv tuner for an old laptop to watch a couple of the games that are on broadcast tv. Saves me a much needed shelf I would be using for a TV for more storage.

It actually costs us $50 here on Australia to dump old CRT TV's or COmputer monitors now. Nearly imposible to find someone that wants them

I do machining in my shop. TV can be a potentially dangerous distraction.

Guys w/ TVs in the garage do you have a seperate cable/satellite box run out there? I have an extra Satellite box in my guest bedroom that I have inactivated as they charge you $5/month for each additional box.

Most people that use my guest room are friends too drunk to drive home so it would be no loss to put it in the garage.

I use the second output from the satellite converter box (2 TV converter) that goes to my office TV for all the extra T.V.'s in the house. I just take the UHF remote with me when I go into the garage, or the basement, or hand it off to company for the guest bedroom. It works great but there are 2 downsides to this method: It takes 2 remotes to work most of the other televisions (one for the T.V. & the UHF to change channels). Occasionally, due to all the traveling, the remote will turn up MIA.

Same here. Like most good folks I followed the rules and bought a couple converters.
This was last spring when the Govt was making a big deal out of it. All I ever got before was Fox and PBS but I enjoy the PBS home and car shows on the weekend. For the first week I got all 3 of the "new" digital PBS channels, very cool. Then when they made the full switch to digital NADA. Talked to a rep on their helpline and he informed me they were not allowed to power up fully with the new digital and that the signal "falls off" instead of fading like the old analog. Living in the country I am midpoint between the two transmitters and can't pull in either! This makes sense, remember when cell phones went to digital? Yup, same thing, the "technology" wasn't an improvent and now you get worse coverage than before.................and about those old frequencies that the feds always told us were "public" airwaves????? They sold em off to the highest bidders, didn't see my check on that one.

Anyway, it may all be a moot point soon. Free television is a failed business model and the big 3 are looking at a subscription service.

I have dish network, I run one of the units to my garage that I loop to 3 tvs (old analog tvs from the house.) through a DA. That way I can glance at the tv will I am working on something in my garage.
