Both Lowes and HD each have an aggressively priced Shop Vac right now:

LOWES

12 gal, 6 "peak" HP, 1-1/4" hose, Stainless Steel - $49.99

HOME DEPOT

WD1640 - 16 gal, 5 "peak" HP, 1-7/8" hose - $49.99 (in store price)

I've been looking for a new one, my 20+ year old Craftsman is starting to smell funny. Both of these "deals" seem to be neutered models. The HD seems like a black Friday version of the 1680, smaller hose limited accessories. Coincidentally, the noise ratings that HD used to have for all the Ridgid Vacs are gone. The Lowes deal seems a little better, I don't really understand the 1-1/4" hose on a 6 HP shop vac. Start adding the bigger hose and missing accessories, the deals seem not so great.

My brother has the stainless shop vac, could be had for 35 w coupon, the noise is extreme; to the point he wears ear plugs cleaning his truck.
I have an old rigid similar to the one you linked, if has been through hell and still works great minus the noise.

I recently purchased the rigid WD1451 and would highly recommend spending the extra money and purchasing the same thing. Noise is so minimal you can have an elevated voice conversation while using it.

Skip the holiday special models, get the 14 gallon Ridgid from HD, it is the quietest $100 shop vacuum I've ever heard. Get the WD1451 kit though, it comes with the car detailing kit and extra hose at the same price as the WD1450.

This, exact model I was referring to above, it is an awesome vac, add the wide brush attachment for around 15 bucks and you will enjoy cleaning.
The upgraded filter makes a huge difference also.

I have the ridgid w1450 and the same stainless shopvac. They are both nice, they both **** up water and dirty well. I personally like lifting the stainless version when it's full of water since it is sturdier.

I'm in the market for a shop vac as well but looking for something smaller in size compared to my 12 gallon Craftsman. Takes up too much space in my garage. Any recommendations?

Haven't use the Lowes one, but I got a few of those Ridgid ones (like 4 or 5).... good vacs... a little bulky to lug around. But very rugged.... it's been through a lot of construction dust still kicking like new... filters I kept a few to wash dry and rotate...

Husky 10gal stainless steel shop vac is down to $35 at Home Depot. At this price point, it is a good buy.

Funny you mention that. We picked up one of those at work on Sunday, and I was using it with a bag, and the 5-ply "HEPA" filter. It's nowhere near as quiet as my Fein, but it's not uncomfortably loud, and it is quite powerful. I'd give it a two-thumbs-up.

I have an older version of the ridgid with the removable blower. It was also $50. Never had a problem, it's a great vac
Me too,but mine is a Craftsman. Emerson Electric makes the Ridgid and Craftsman Shop Vacuums. I put in a Goretex filter that is rated for EVERYTHING And cleans up easily.

Found this in the clearance section for $18.00. Put it together and seems to have some good suction, but haven't tested out much.
