I have two large shop vaca at work. The hoses are long and hard to store as they usually end up unwinding or being shoved in the corner of the shelf. What's a good way to store them?

I have an extra long hose that I use for car interiors. I usually just drape it over the rungs of my 8 foot ladder but I have been considering adding some ladder or garden hose hooks at about 6 feet for this and the other hoses.

Coxreels is great stuff, but I'm not sure I want a hose reel that I might use 2 times a month and possibly costs more than my toolbox...

See if you can get an empty wire reel from an electrician or an electrical place. I bet a 1000 ft Romex spool with a couple of hooks would hold a decent length of 2" vac hose.

If there is a open stairway close by, screw a 10’ section of 4” pipe on the underside of the stairs. Hose slips nicely into it.

Seems like it wouldn't be all that difficult to make up some sort of a reel out of metal or plywood.

Biggest hurdle would be if you wanted the vacuum to work without disconnecting the hose at the center of the reel and reconnecting when hose has been taken off, unless it was just a storage device and you didn't need the hose to work while on the reel.

I wonder if you could mimic the way air hose reels work, but on a larger scale to accommodate the large vacuum hose diameter. Might be an interesting project - might even be worth selling plans for it if you figured it out.

I built a deep drawer maybe 16x16x12 that slides under a shelf to hold mine. (Fein vacuum with about 20 feet of hose) Just push the hose in and close the drawer. The accessories go on the bottom under the hose.

I went the cheap and simple route. Just used a plastic garden hose hanger. The shop vac sits near a roll up door which makes it easy to vacuum vehicles outside and still reach anywhere INSIDE the 1250 sq ft garage. 04f51645e2a432a31de3fc0d8a1713bb.jpg

I got something similar to the 2nd picture below from Lowes to hang up my extra vac hose.

Yes it does, but I purchased an extra 10 feet of hose to be able to get all the way to the front of the garage if needed.
That made for a bit more hose that what would coil up neatly on the vacuum.

I purchased an extra 14' length of hose for my Craftsman wall vac, too and it all fits on the rack.

I just used two small ladder brackets mounted on one of the posts of my 2 post lift. There are 3 eight foot lengths of 2" hose up off the floor. Works well for me.

Yep. The first time I saw a guy store the hose inside, I thought, "Holly ****", "I should have been doing this all along!"

When I bought my shop vac the hose was packaged inside of it. I presumed everybody did it that way.

Usually I'm too lazy to empty the vacuum though so the hose stays attached and flops around and I trip over it until I step on the end and break the plastic coupler.

Maybe my hose isn't as long as what some of you have, I think it is only 10' long.

But I just drape mine over my vac.

I wonder how much suction you lose when you have 30 or so feet of hose?

I would love to get a reel as I hate the hose mess w vac but dont want to have minimal working suction.

Anyone w 30 plus feet have any insight

I have a 25 footer that i add on to the existing 6 footer on my "6.75hp" shop vac. it is from Dustless Technologies

suction is definitely less, but it works well. my main goal was to reach around my 2 car garage without moving the massive shop vac. it's fine for cleaning cars, picking up sawdust on the workbench and cleaning up the floor. when i connect it to my table saw or miter saw, it catches noticeably less saw dust than with just the standard hose.

my normal use the the factory 6' plus a 10' ridgid, which works great.

A video about the Fast Cap Super Reel. The best feature is its "counter weighted" so the hose docent unreel all the way every time you pull on the hose.

I saved this pic from a post on this site years ago and is still my favorite.
