Shop Vac storage

Where do you all store your shop vac?

It seems the dang thing is always in my way.

Under a work bench/table would probably be the best. Mine is currently in the way as well but will store under a table when I finish my setup.

I got tired of dragging my big vac around, and picked up this
wall unit from Sears (5hp peak). Not as strong as my big vac,
but great for the car, and general cleanup. The hose stretches
across this 18' bay. You can unclip it from the wall mount easily
if needed.

I built myself a little 2'x2'x4' tall cabinet on castors. On the top is my mitre saw, with a drawer below for blades and vac acessories, and the bottom is an open cubby hole into which I put my big shop Vac. The original intent was to put a hole in the top of the cabinet so I can hook the vac up to the dust collection chute on the mitre saw, but I haven't gone that far yet.

I like the idea about building the miter saw table and stowing the shopvac under there, though. Good idear.

Under the bench, but it's on castors for when needed. Have also adapted a metal dustpan so I can attach the hose on the back and just sweep stuff into it.

My plan is to build a platform that will allow me to store my shop vac under my apartment sized garage refrigerator. The vac belongs on the floor and the refrigerator needs to be elevated off the floor. They both take up about 30"x30", so it just makes sense.

I have a place under the bench that it is suppose to go. Right now there is a Vespa and Muncie 3speed in the way LOL.

Like others have mentioned make it stationary most of the time. The plan has been to run a PVC pipe from under the bench to the top of the bench where the Miter will be used and then run it up to the front of the garage. Get a long hose that will reach out to a car nosed up to the door.

A lot of the time I set the miter or router table on a shop mate in just in front of the garage to try and keep the dust in the garage to a minimum. This arrangement would let me collect the mess there as well. Basically make it function as a built in but if I need it in the house just plug in the hose and go. Thought about putting a switched outlet so I can turn it on and off at the front but 20ft is not that far to walk to turn it on and off at the bench. LOL

In my new shop I am building a tool room which will house the air compressor and all my tools. I built a 8 ft work bench and under it I built a second shelf that is only 6 ft long and at the 2 ft on the one end I frame and used ply wood and built a door to have a cabinet underneath the bench to put my shop vac and attachments under it and out of the way.

As promised. Some of the edging is coming off the side, but hey, It's still functional. There is about 4" of space between the back of the cabinet and the back of the drawer for the (future) feeding through of the vac hose to the mitre saw.

In the back corner of my shop, I built a large storage closet; it's 4x6, if I remember correctly. The shop has 12-foot walls, so I built the closet with a 7-foot ceiling, using 2x6s for wall studs. It has a generous vent in it, and a 30-inch door that is a little short. The ceiling and walls are completely insulated.
There's a light in it, a shelf that I store cleaning supplies, rubber gloves, a tote bin full of clean shop rags, spray cans and other stuff on, and a 220 outlet for the air compressor I'm about to buy. The wall just inside the door is covered with a sheet of white-faced peg board, with a flat nosed shovel, a push broom, a regular broom and a dust pan hanging on it.
The closet will keept the noise of the air compressor down.
I made closet larger than needed, SPECIFICALLY so I could also store my shop vac in there.
Other benefits to the closet: you gain more wall space to hang things, by building around something big and stable like an air compressor.
I also now have a 4x6 storage loft above it, to keep big bulky things like seats up out of the way.

It's a long way to go to answer the "what do you do with your shop vac" question, but shop vac storage, the compressor and the loft above were specifically why I built the closet.
