I need a good shop vac for cleaning out cars and general shop stuff. Tired of the cheap rigid ones from homedepot.

Some of the pre-NXT Ridgid vacs weren't great (small power button, puffing dust when it was lifted, odd cord wrap, etc). The newer ones are much better and take all of the same accessories as the old ones, so you don't have to upgrade every piece. It's the job site standard around me due to availability. For work, it's a 5hp 12 gallon. Great for anything from sanding to blowing debris out of gutters.

This is for the car and the 5hp in the smaller vacuum is really nice. These are usually on sale for under $100 around Father's Day.

That orange hose is far superior to the black one.

Just seems like the suction on mine is terrible. They work okay for a little while then just doesn’t work very good

I'm having a similar issue with mine - worked great for years now there's little to no suction even tho the fan is running full speed and the filter is clean and not restricted. I wonder if the fan is slipping on the shaft? I'm going to take mine apart and see what I can learn - it will probably destroy it since it's all glued up plastic from the looks of it.....we'll see.

Check the hose and make sure that isn't plugged somewhere. :dunno:

I bought a Craftsman three months ago and the quality is still pretty damn good.

If it's mainly for vacuuming out vehicles I would recommend the milwaukee M12 vacuum. The portability is great and good suction power.

That being said I have had a ridgid for close to 8 yrs that has been great. It is probably going to become a dedicated dust collector now that I have the milwaukee though.

I have a mid size Ridgid with an extension hose. It does a pretty good job, but is still a largish unit. The smaller hose with the step up adapter is much better for car cleaning and similar tasks.

I did get one of the Craftsman wall mount units, a rebadged Vacmaster, that has the remote switch on the hose. I got mine at a Sears Hometown store, left over stuff that was marked down at the time. It is really nice, I have it mounted next to the small workshop area in the garage, and it is easy to use for car cleaning as well. I am starting to prefer this one for those types of tasks now as it is smaller, and quieter, and the Ridgid will be for the heavier stuff and maybe repurposed for dust collection as well.
