This place talked me into trying them. But i've got maybe a knot-headed question: do you leave the original pleated filter in place? Or, do you just rely on the disposable bag? The instructions with the bags are not clear on the subject. Well, the instructions don't address the issue at all, and these bags probably weren't even an idea when this machine was made! What is the practice? Thank you in advance.

Yes, leave the pleated filter in place. The purpose of the bags is to prevent clogging of the pleated filter when vacuuming fine dust. It also makes it convenient to empty, just toss the bag, no dust going everywhere like you get when dumping direct from the shop vac.

I've kept mine in place since new and I do still notice some fine dust in the shop vac. Good idea to keep the filter in place.

Yes as mentioned earlier leave the filter in place, bags for shop vacuums are the greatest invention since sliced bread in my opinion.

Exactly. Pleated filter with the bag. Not the cloth filter bag that some vacuums use though.

filter plus bag. I've had bags rip or leak before and have no desire to be blowing dust right back out the vac

Why not just take a plastic bag and make two holes for the in and out vents, then drape it over the edges and lock the top on? that would make cleaning out the shop vac a lot easier.

Shop vac bags trap the fine dust so you don’t lose suction. Easier clean is just a by product you could say.

When the dust cakes on the filter, you lose suction until you clean it. With a bag, the dust sticks inside the bag, and every time you shut it off the bag collapses, the dust falls off, and your back to full suction time and time again until the bag is actually so full it starts to restrict the airflow.

Links to said bags? I like the idea......

I don't have a link per se, i just found the at a Lowe's. I was looking for replacement filters for the Craftsman vacuums that they DO sell, and found only filters for Shop-Vac vacuums that this store seems to NO LONGER sell. The sales associate walking the aisle had no explanation.... But, they did have a selection of the bags in various sizes.

I recently got a new Ridgid vac that uses bags. I wish my old one did too, but it doesn't have the attachment point I don't think.

I remove my filter. I get NO dust coming out, and my craftsman vac is used as dust collector for my blast cab.

I use only the bag, no filter. Hadn't have any problems. I use my vac for dust collection on my SawStop table saw. No fine dust comes out that I notice. I think the vac has better **** with just the bag over the filter.

The filter does reduce suction over the bag alone. But the finest dust in the air (which isn't really visible) is the most harmful to your lungs, and that's exactly what the bag lets by.

I bought bags for my shop vac when doing some drywalling. Bags helped with the super-fine dust from that. Instructions on my bag of bags said leave pleated permanent filter in place. I did, and there wasn't much dust in the pleated when I cleaned out the vac.

I bought the bags on Amazon, but since then have seen them at HD.
