Good day,

I'm looking for a new shop vacuum for just general shop cleanup.
I'm thinking of buying the Ridgid Stainless Steel Vac, Model # WD1060, and buying an extra 20 foot, 2 1/2 inch extension hose.

Anyone use these? Any problems? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I’ve got the plastic version big ridgid. Used lots at work as well. Stainless and plastic. Ridgid seemed to be pretty decent vacuums.

I've also got a plastic ridgid. It's the one with the removable blower. It was on sale a few years ago for $50. I also bought the 20 foot extension hose. I use it to clean out the dryer vent in my garage. I just pull out the dryer and feed the hose up thru the wall until it stops. I use the removable blower quite a bit to clear out the garage. It's been a great investment so far.

I finally bought this vac with a 20 foot, 2 1/2 inch diameter extension hose and different adapters.
Can't believe how much power it has. I tried vacuuming a small mat, 2 foot by 3 foot. The vac actually picks it up off the ground wanting to pull in all in.

Another vote for Ridgid. Mine is over 20 years old and still going strong.

I had the old one like that with the gauge on the top that told you when you needed to change the filter. My boss was using it and forgot it was behind his suv when he pulled out of his garage he got me the new one it works just as good.

I think its a good option. I am using this last one month and I can't see any problem.

Made by Emerson Electric, who made a ton of them for Sears. I have the removable blower one. When I needed a spare part for my Craftsman I discovered that the look alike Ridgid used the same part numbers with better prices. They offer a bunch of specialized filters for ever higher prices. WL Gore, the inventers of goretex, the waterproof, breathable membrane used in clothing, makes filters for Craftsman, Ridgid, Shopvac, etc. They filter anything that you are likely to vaccum up and are washable. Highly recommended.

All shop vacs seem noisy, but all seem to work as well as any others. Mr Nozzle car kit is a great addition, but I've always had a bit of loose fit using it with my Craftsman branded vac, not a big deal, but it does slip out too easy. My impression is that there is some small variation in size between brands so the other guys accessories don't fit well.

The smaller metal vacs often go for cheap used, which tempts me to pick one up just for smaller jobs or where I need to haul the vac around.

The plastic ones take up too much space, but IMHO better a plastic tub for wet stuff.

I really think it is just lousy QC. I have an assortment of different brand stuff that for the most part, fit. A lot of those fittings are unbranded generic.

I never filled up my 16 gallon vacs so I recently downsized to an 8 or 9 for my garage, plus my garage is not that big. I still have a couple of 16s in other places. I’d probably buy ridgid plastic for the best value. There are really great vacs out there but they cost several times or more than the ridgid or craftsman or shop vac.

I have used a cheap shop vac for the last 12 years and it has worked just fine. I did use a friends larger craftsman $80-90 vac and thought it was a huge improvement in not only suction but quality of hose and attachments

There is a muffler for it that helps quite a bit. Buy it as Craftsman or Ridgid; it all comes from Emerson. Just stick it in the blower port. That's it. I would say it is more than a bit loud but it does work.
