Dollar Tree does have some decent supplies if you think outside of the box. Those shoe wipes are just alcohol wipes for the most part and do work well for cleaning hands, dashboards, tools, etc. I keep them in the gear box I have in each vehicle that has those, ratchet straps, utility knife, duct tape, oversize flags, flashlights, etc.
What else is useful at Dollar Tree (and other dollar stores)?
Awesome cleaner. The brand is used in many products and I have good luck with the water based degreaser. I used eight of the little half gallon containers to fill my parts washer with and it has been fantastic. Mixed with a bit of water, the result has been better than some commercial solvents I've used in the past.
Ziploc/storage bags. Those with a sticky note pad and permanent marker are great for temporary storage of bolts, clips or other bits during a repair that might extend for more than a day... or your memory will allow. I just used this yesterday for a side engine cover. "Engine side cover. 1/4" x 1.25" bolts, 5x"
Storage food containers. These things are great! The sandwich ones are my favorite as they are flat, stack well, and are tall enough to hold bolts, hardware, wires, etc. At 5 for a buck, it's a great deal. Even when I toss them into a bin for a project, they keep each section separate. I use the same sticky note process mentioned above.
Plastic dishwashing brushes. These work great in parts washers.
Dust pans / brushes. Keep them where you work. I keep my floor and workspace tidy by keeping the cleaning supplies where the messes happen. Multiple sets in different locations.
Rubbing / Isopropyl alcohol. I love this stuff. I use two of the bottles and a hand pump sprayer (also $1) to keep it handy in a nice spray bottle setup. I clean parts with my parts cleaner, rinse with clean water, blow the part dry, then hit it with the alcohol spray and dry it. I have a very dry part ready for paint. A quick and easy solvent. Keep away from flame or it will clean YOU by fire!
Pencil cups. These wire mesh cups are great for use again in the parts washer for small parts to soak and not get lost.
Cooking utensils: Tongs, timers, cutting boards, etc. Tongs are nice for handling hot parts or particularly dirty ones. Timers are, well, just that. Nice for mixing paints. Don't care if you mess it up. Better to mess up a $1 timer than your phone. Cutting boards- these are great things! I like the white ones as you can cut them up for insulating blocks with electrical mounts, use them as a mixing board for body filler (pops right off), epoxy mixing, and even something as silly as using it as a cutting board with your utility knife instead of your bench top.
