I have been known to use "diaper wipes" on occasion.
They even make my hands smell clean.

Just got to use these today and have to say that for a dollar I will be picking up more for each car, my travel bag, and the garage. I have never used the Grime Boss version and I did see the thread for them being on sale at Sam's club, but these did work great and I will be picking up more. Just wanted to update in case anyone was thinking of getting some.

A friend dropped a case of these by my shop the first of the week. (I let him have the floor out of a total I am parting out). They do a great job getting dirt and grease off my hands. Would recommend them at a buck a pack. The pack reseals and keeps the towels moist.

Went to my local Dollar Tree the other day and saw they had some shop wipes. I was just wondering if anyone had used these before? I picked up a package but haven't needed to use them yet, but figured for a buck I can keep them in the car.

Here is a link to the item if your interested.

The "heaviest of all duties!" (I just made that up). Nah, dollar store stuff usually is okay just look at what's on the package. I think the dollar tree degreaser has ammonia in it (I own that, it's a big bottle and it works well actually:headscrat) so don't use it on anything that can rust.

I think they used to sell m-90 (think that's what it's called), now they sell orange goop in the squeeze tube. Again, it's good stuff just gotta make sure it's actually cheaper than buying it somewhere else (size might be smaller).

Nick is cheap. Nick buys a decent amount at the dollar stores but savings can vary based on what you're buying. I bought their sharpening stone and it's not bad...not at all. Much cheaper than the other ones I have.

I'm talking about dollar tree but the 99 cents only stores have better stuff, but not the same stuff. Some is the same and some is rebranded like the "antiseptic mouth wash" which is made by vijon and the same as the store branded stuff for usually less. They don't want you to know that though. How you tell: They got vi-jon imprinted on the bottom of the plastic container, I think it's because they make their own containers.

Honestly I haven't used any of their shop wipes. I had purchased at Dollar Three several cleaning supplies at $1. I love their Windex Premium Microfiber Cleaning Cloths and Ajax Lime Dish Liquid with Bleach Alternative.

Dollar Tree does have some decent supplies if you think outside of the box. Those shoe wipes are just alcohol wipes for the most part and do work well for cleaning hands, dashboards, tools, etc. I keep them in the gear box I have in each vehicle that has those, ratchet straps, utility knife, duct tape, oversize flags, flashlights, etc.

What else is useful at Dollar Tree (and other dollar stores)?

Awesome cleaner. The brand is used in many products and I have good luck with the water based degreaser. I used eight of the little half gallon containers to fill my parts washer with and it has been fantastic. Mixed with a bit of water, the result has been better than some commercial solvents I've used in the past.

Ziploc/storage bags. Those with a sticky note pad and permanent marker are great for temporary storage of bolts, clips or other bits during a repair that might extend for more than a day... or your memory will allow. I just used this yesterday for a side engine cover. "Engine side cover. 1/4" x 1.25" bolts, 5x"

Storage food containers. These things are great! The sandwich ones are my favorite as they are flat, stack well, and are tall enough to hold bolts, hardware, wires, etc. At 5 for a buck, it's a great deal. Even when I toss them into a bin for a project, they keep each section separate. I use the same sticky note process mentioned above.

Plastic dishwashing brushes. These work great in parts washers.

Dust pans / brushes. Keep them where you work. I keep my floor and workspace tidy by keeping the cleaning supplies where the messes happen. Multiple sets in different locations.

Rubbing / Isopropyl alcohol. I love this stuff. I use two of the bottles and a hand pump sprayer (also $1) to keep it handy in a nice spray bottle setup. I clean parts with my parts cleaner, rinse with clean water, blow the part dry, then hit it with the alcohol spray and dry it. I have a very dry part ready for paint. A quick and easy solvent. Keep away from flame or it will clean YOU by fire!

Pencil cups. These wire mesh cups are great for use again in the parts washer for small parts to soak and not get lost.

Cooking utensils: Tongs, timers, cutting boards, etc. Tongs are nice for handling hot parts or particularly dirty ones. Timers are, well, just that. Nice for mixing paints. Don't care if you mess it up. Better to mess up a $1 timer than your phone. Cutting boards- these are great things! I like the white ones as you can cut them up for insulating blocks with electrical mounts, use them as a mixing board for body filler (pops right off), epoxy mixing, and even something as silly as using it as a cutting board with your utility knife instead of your bench top.

Try the Awesome Cleaner in a HF Ultrasonic cleaner at 50/50... the stuff works miracles. I clean all of my carburetors now with the $ store cleaner. Saves quite a bit of dough and it is very thorough. The grime literally rubs off after the 2nd or 3rd cycle.

Which version of the Awesume Cleaner do you use? They seem to have several. The Yellow one?

do they smell? Menards had some just like that but different brand on clearance for 10 cents. I bought 25 of them but quickly learned the smell makes me gag. like dead mouse was in the cleaner they added to the wips...they do work good though...but I see why they were so cheap.

I haven't tried the menards version but the dollar tree ones definitely do not smell good. I keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer with the wipes to get rid of the smell on your hands after using the wipes.
