Shop worklight queston

I'm trying to find out if anybody has taking a generic 4' dual-florescent (or led) hanging light and converted it for use under the hood of cars? I have a few of the LED ones from Costco and I'd like to find a way to make them work under the hoods of cars, without of course scratching or damaging them. I'm sure it's been done, but I can't really find anything. Thoughts?

If you buy it at the correct time you can get the Harbor Freight one for under $30. I wouldn't bother trying to make one.

I looked today and din't see any LED lights except cordless stuff. I'm not looking for cordless stuff, and the 'underhood' light they have is pretty small.

Look for a Bayco NIGHTSTICK SLR-2120, it's a great light and puts out plenty of light for working under the hood. We sell them but look around, you can find them cheaper. I have one and I store it over my work bench, I can light up my bench with it with the same amount of light that the 4' fluorescents I have for the bench put out. Under the hood it puts out a great light, even and bright. It uses Cree-style LED elements, not 4mm LED "bulbs".

The good thing, besides the amount of light, is it has two brightness levels, and the mount has a lot of mounting options.

Look into oemtools rechargeable work lights. I just purchased the 25997 13inch light and the 24603 6inch light and they are pretty nice lights

Thats a $160 light - AND it's a rechargeable cordless. Did you read anything I asked?

I don't know why you would bother, but maybe you could modify some LED under cabinet lighting. I also found one with a simple Google search, but it's $120.

I have ALOT of good cordless lights - unfortunately I don't think the hf under hood light is one of em.. it's better if you have nothing else of course, and cheap too.. but, there are better options...

I honestly thought about buying those cheap flexible strip lights off Amazon and replacing the lights in my HF model, but it's just not worth the aggravation seeing as I don't use it alot.. I'm sure if you got creative you can find something, but for $100 it's worth buying a good one if you wanna use it alot... The Capri tools led light is a good compromise and only about $35..

I have once seen a 4' fluorescent shoplight sort of thing mounted by one end to a stand that had casters, with the light extended upward diagonally so it would shine down on an engine. I do not know just what kind of stand it was, or how the light was mounted to it. The stand had to be heavy enough that the light would not tip it over.

I still use corded lights most of the time.
