Hey all,

Thought I would share my latest shop creation, a materials stop for my Evolution cold saw. I do quite a bit of repetitous cuts for my furniture and fabrication. So I thought I would put together a materials stop so I could churn out pieces the same size to cut down on time.

Built it out of scrap 1-1/2" angle. It's the same height as the saw deck which also helps with the cut off pieces. The stop is made of two angle sections and an upside down carriage bolt that slides in the slot made from the angle frame.
There is a metal tab that slides up the inside face of the saw deck that keeps the stop in place. I glued an old yardstick to the face of the back plate to measure. Need a bunch of peices at 18" tighten down the stop and start choppin.

Of course it only works on straight 90 cuts...working on another guide for 45 degree cuts, which I also do alot of.

Since chop saws have really come down in price have any of you thought about having one set up for 45's and another just for 90's?

This would seem to save money in the long run on just set up time to switch back and forth.

Terry- I love it, it's awesome. I also have the hand held skil saw type version for cutting plate steel.

Imcrazy - I've thought about that because I have to dial it in everytime I convert it to cut 45's. The stop on it isn't quite 45 degrees. But I'm saving up for a TIG welder first!

Great idea just a suggestion, how about using a round knob instead of a nut&bolt you could slide the 90 degree stop more easily

Not a bad idea. Though the OP's saw appears to have a cast base.

The newer breed of kung pao chop saws have thin stamped steel bases which are not substantial at all.

Yes, the Evolution saws have a nice heavy cast base...and they aren't cheap either!

Just a little follow up. I make alot of miter cuts in steel as well. So I made a little stop that allows me to cut all my pieces to length, then cut the miters. Works like a champ and saves me quite a bit of time.

I really like that idea. Beats the heck out of angle iron and a vise grip. Only thing I would change is a T style handle versus the bolt. Don't need a wrench then. I may steal this.

Jobe,

Do you still have pictures of the materials stop you built?
Used my Rage 3 the other night to cut bench legs and I wanted so badly to just set my materials stop and zip those legs out. But alas, I had no stop.

Thanks.
