Ok I picked up 4 shopping carts at my local grocery store today, they were getting rid of them and getting new ones and selling them for $5 each so I figured why not for $20 I could find something to use them for. Give me your ideas.

welding cart! I have 2 smaller ones in my shed that will likely serve this purpose.

If you have a plasma cutter they work great for that. Easy place to store all the cables and any spare parts for it also. They are also a great way to keep all your wire/cable spools organized. Just stick some conduit through the holes on the side and use it for a wire rack.

You paid $5 too much. You could just have walked home with a new one. duh.

You would think people are made of money these days.

Worked so good for so long it took a while to get around to replacing it. Finally cut it up and made a general use cart out of it.

Most shopping cart casters are surprisingly robust. It was worth it for the casters alone if nothing else.

Are you kidding? Jackasses that kept doing this a while back, leading to electronic wheel-lock systems being put into place at one local supermarket, and concrete barrier poles at another.

Personally, I think I like the red neck BBQ the best. Even if you bought the shopping cart and people saw it in your garage and you told them you bought it?..............you would probably get a, "Yeah, ri-i-i-i-i-i-ght", reply. :)

Thanks for the ideas guys, I don't think that they'll hold my Big Blocks though as far as engine stands go. And I already have welding carts. Think I'll just cut them up, make some shelving and then find a use for the casters.

Haha this thread makes me laugh because I work next to a grocery store and I was so debating casually walking off with a shopping cart for 1 of thd uses listed above. That's hilarious!

FWIW, my local machine shop uses old shopping carts to store camshafts. They lay perfectly across the top of the cart. They have some kind of pin on the end to keep them from rolling off.

Well here is the first of what I did, I made a lawn wagon with one, it tilts and the end opens up. I still need to make the tow bar for it and line it with some wood. It will be great for hauling branches and leaves from around my yard.

I don't think I've used a cart yet that had a good set of casters. Either one will pull or will wobble like a bowl of Jello :lol_hitti

Add a hitch to pull it with a riding mower and that would be the best lawn cart ever.

Some places now have smaller ones with 2 baskets, that would be perfect for a mig + plasma cart
