A name that you might consider is Cornwell. They aren't as popular and don't come around as often, but man, are they a heavy duty box. Mine is 58 wide with the 24" deep drawers, 11 drawer, double roller guides on all the deep drawers. Stainless steel top. I picked it up last summer for $1800, and the seller said he had bought it used in 2011 for $7000. It is so heavy that in order to get it out of his F150 4x4 (we didn't have ramps) we rolled it down into my Toyota 2wd truck and then down from it. I couldn't be happier with it and I am confident it will last me a lifetime

Aberdale, I share your philosophy, usually when I stick to this, if I change me mind and do decide to sell, I don't lose any money in the process.

the last new toolbox i bought was in '99, a CM top that resides in my service truck today. ive picked up a few used boxes over the years, and still have most of them, and probably will voluntarily sell them

ive bought 2 sets of new boxes in the last 30 or so years, 1 set in '86 and another set in '94. still have both sets. i picked up a used set, (in a trade), a few years ago date coded in the 70's

they will all outlast me...

Not sure if the op has pulled the trigger yet but I’ll say I just got a KRA4107 for work and it’s no where near as nice as the Menards 24” masterforce boxes. Quite frankly it’s a *************.

Thin sheet metal, no supports on any of the drawers. It’s subjective but in general it feels cheap. I got rid of a krsc46 to get this and I’m disappointed. I’m as big of a kool-aid drinker as anyone but this box makes me mad. Casters are nice though. Before I got my KRL for home I had a smorgasbord of boxes from masterforce to homak h2pros. Subjectivity speaking this one is the worst. Sorry I can’t provide a scientific analysis.

Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but trying to arrange a way to get the KR boxes without having to drive for 6 hours.

I guess this is normal but I don't understand people when it comes to financial decisions.

It is in like new condition, have all original paperwork, paid 5,665.12 for it.

Um, no, you didn't pay $5665 for it. You paid $5,000 for the toolbox and got ripped off paying $600 in interest at 19.8%.

I guess this is where snap-on really makes their money. New mechanics that don't understand budgeting and have to have a nice shiny big bad toolbox. (Not to mention all the new tools to go with it). I feel sorry for these guys. I could never be a salesman.

The interest rate is also quite possibly a reflection of the risk to the company of the buyer defaulting on his payments. How common is it for techs to finance items, get behind on payment followed by leaving their employer so the company has to track them down to repossess the items?

Make a point to get on the local tool trucks. Some of these guys like to wheel and deal and have older trade in boxes you can get good deals on.

i went and checked out those new Masterforce boxes and they’re NICE!!! The old versions were pretty good before but there’s no way I could justify a truck box after playing with the new ones. And for at home? No chance. Well done Menards, well done!

I really like the new Masterforce boxes, being that they're 24" deep, but they want $250 to ship one to me here in California.

This isn’t near you but this seems like an okay deal. MAC Tech 1000 19 drawer for $1500 in black, so it’s an easily resold color. This is the type of “deal” to look for...

https://lexington.craigslist.org/tls/d/3-bay-macsimizer-tool-box/6470866915.html

I’d offer $1,100 and see if he’d bite. Probably walk at $1,200. He lowered the price from $1,900 with no takers.

The best “value” is a HF box, I watched an older used 44” and side cabinet sell for $350 in 24 hours. Assuming he bought the side cabinet at full price he lost $200 for a couple years of use. That’s the best “value”, but I certainly understand not going that route.
I am 10 minutes away from this box if that would be of any help.

$1000 is a reasonable price for those boxes. they look to be in pretty good condition.

just beware, the damn things are heavy :shocking:

You're not kidding about the weight! I bought a set of these full of tools, and it was a bear to transport. That said, you could tell it was a top-quality box. The ones I bought were rough, so I didn't keep them, but I would definitely buy a clean set if i ran across a decent price!

I ended up getting the KR650A and KR655B for $900. I had to drive 8 hours round trip, but I guess it was worth it. Now, time to start buying some tools!

$3250.00 off of Craigslist four years ago from a retired mechanic. 7-10 years old but everything cleaned up pretty nice. No one else was touching it at the $4500.00 asking price. $375.00 to have it wreckered 100 miles and $300.00 to have the butcher block top planed and refinished. Keep your eyes peeled for the occasional deal.

+1 to above plus be prepared travel for a real chance bargain.
I have 2 matco 7525's and a side drawer box which cost me very very little due to putting in few hours travel make it happen and being prepared refinish outer panels paint and fit new casters.
I've used them few years and likely last me to retirement and will sell for more or at worst same as total cost I put into them .
You don't have go into debt on a good box but it needs effort as very rarely does a real steal deal fall on your lap .

Thats exactly the issue!!! Had a tech leave my shop 5 months ago and the Snapon driver is still hunting him down!
