shopping for new bench grinder????

If you were to buy a new bench grinder for less then $100.00 What would you buy ? I think the more AMPS. means more power ?

Yes, Amps is everything and HP is absolutely meaningless.

I wouldn't buy a new one for less then $100. I'd look for a nice used CM block grinder or double your budget and get the 8 amp/8" Jet.

If I only had $100 to spend I'd either find a vintage on Craigslist that works or I would get the cheap one at harbor freight and set the rest of the money aside to save for a quality one

Since you asked about a NEW bench grinder, right now there's a DeWalt 6" bench grinder on sale at Lowe's for $99. It's 4 amps and listed at 5/8 horsepower.

I have that DeWalt. It's pretty decent. Probably one of the best you'll find in that price range.

FWIW Dewalt's 8" grinder just dropped to $110 prime on Amazon. I have it and like it. Have posted my thoughts about it here a few times. I paid a little bit more than that for it though just a few months ago and hadn't turned off the price alerts for it from when I had been shopping around for it, so when I got this one I remembered this recent thread.

Buy a used Baldor or Wissota grinder. A 6-inch model rated 1/3 or 1/2 hp will fit in your $100 budget. 6" diameter wheels at 3450 rpm is ideal for grinding ferrous metals.
