I just got my hands on a shopsmith for 600 bucks. The thing is pretty mint. Separate from the mark V i also snatched up a shopsmith router arm with a nice little rockwell router to boot. I was wondering whats everyone's experience with shopsmith mark v and maybe share some stories if you got any.

I have never owned one but my buddies who have think they are great. Separate tools might be better and more convenient, but you cannot beat a Shopsmith for occasional woodworking in a small area. Lathe, bandsaw, and sander seem to be the most favorite tools.

Buddy's dad had one (he passed) and used it a good bit. Know he was happy with it and he was quite picky.

See them regularly at sales and they bring about that money most times.

I had the pleasure of Learning Wood turning from a Old timer quite a few years ago using one of thèse machines good memories and the things a master craftsman can do on one of thèse Is outstanding.

I guess I'm getting old that was 16 years ago when I was about 12 or so I expressed a interest while cutting his lawn that summer I have to say the couple hours spent in his shop after cutting the lawn was worth way more then the ten bucks I got looking back  I wonder if kids still cut lawns and get opportunity's to learn like that anymore?

Im afraid my friend that those days are gone forever, lost to technology and gadgets, the kids nowadays have no clue.

Thats two bad I remember gr9 I bought my old mans motorolla startac flip phone for the sum of 100$ and had to do enough work for the neighbors to cover the 35$ a month bill that I'm sure he covered more times then I did but I always had to pay him back lol I was one of the few guys in junior high that had a working cell though

Idk even when I have kids I hope they could have opportunity's like that nothing like learning hard work and a skill at the same time when youre young am I the next generation that is supposed to pass on knowledge and odd skills? I live in the country now 5 neighbors spread out over 6 miles of gravel road should I try to encourage their kids to come during the summer to help garden and cut grass or is that weird now?

They have their chores I'm sure but actually going to a neighbors to do work in sure would be different still? Me when I was young was taught to go out market and do what I said I was going to do by the time i was 14 i owned a stihl fs55 trimmer bg55 blower a mtd 3.5 horse push mower and numerous hand tools ect i had 14 peoples property's i looked after did two everyday after school plus weekends lol is this work ethic really lost i feel i could teach basic mechanics skills right now in my life

I am in the city but most neighbors are elderly like me. But two years ago before I retired I was talking to a co-worker about his teenagers. He lamented the fact that they ate too much. I jokingly replied that he should send them over for some paid yard work. Well, that worked out well. Both of them spent a few days cutting brush in my yard. In spite of pretty good money--$60-80 for 5-6 hours, neither lasted more than a few days. BUT both of them liked the money so much that both were employed within a few weeks and have been earning since. He thanked me many times for putting his boys on the scent of earned money.
