Good evening. I’ve bought a new shop vac with 2-1/2” hose. I’d like to be able to use my old 1-1/4” hose and attachments to extend the hose. Google and Amazon are only getting me various versions of this:

I feel like the hoses will slip off each end of this. Are there better options that will give a more positive connection?

Push harder, keep the vacuum on.

Every shopvac I’ve ever owned or use came with those fittings to keep the crevice tool, dust brush etc on. Only fail randomly occasionally.
I have so many 1-1/4 “ house vacuums with a fancy catch, just drives me bats#1t.

You’re going to lose some suction if you use a smaller diameter hose. I’ll agree the shape of that thing is not optimal, I’m not sure what your actual objection to it is. i would guess there’s a bit of a taper to the shapes so they inert easily, but you still have a firm connection. if it falls apart, put it back together and give it a wrap of duct tape.

alternatively, buy a 3dprinter and make the fitting you want,

All of my wet/dry vacuums use similar connections, with the same style of adapter, and they work fine. The ends have a taper which make for a snug fit.

It's Amazon - buy it, try it, and if it doesn't work for you, send it back and get a refund.

I went the opposite direction you did. I got the hose kit first and then went searching for a garage vacuum to fit it.

Make sure one side is able to screw on to the hose

That's exactly what I'm looking for, but my small hose is 1-1/4" ID. I'm not certain it will fit my smaller hose, but I've picked up this and a couple other options, will see if I can cobble something together that works better than my last experience.

Thanks all!!

I should have gotten pics, but didn't. My 1-1/4" ID hose didn't fit on the smaller side, either outside or inside the small end of the adapter. A bit frustrating, since this is exactly what I need, just not the right size.

I don't, my kid does. That may be the way I'll have to go.
Most hose connections have a taper. I simply put a piece of tape down the side and measure and mark a distance on the tape down from the tip. Doesn't matter the distance as long as you know it, say 1". Then at the tip and the mark measure the two diameters. Make a profile drawing in the CAD program from a centerline and revolve it.

If you need help with the CAD side let me know and I will get you an STL or 3MF to print for your set up. It takes just a few minutes.
