Can anyone recommend a short length torque wrench (under 270mm)? What is the shortest length torque wrench available in 3/8 inch? I would like the click type instead of beam or electronic and it must be in NM. Also it must be rated for at least 40NM.

Snap on makes a 250mm dial, NM range up to 75.

Clickers look at Hazet or stahlwille maybe, eg

Hazet 6282-1 CT, 9 x 12, 4-40NM, length 240

Then I have an older Craftsmsn USA that's 12-1/2" long and does 250 in lb.
I like the Snap On better, not because it's a Snap on, but because the handle and head are much thinner and nice for tight spaces. Both torque wrenches I have also have "conversion charts" etched into them for Nm to in lbs.

The 3/8 drive in 1/4 head versions would be optimal otherwise, but I think they max out at 22nm or so. The need to do 40nm is closer to 400 inch pounds. snappy makes 3/8 in 600 inch pound versions but they are longer, like 325mm or something seems common.

thanks for your replies. The Hazet 6282-1 CT does not look like a standard 3/8"?

As for the snap on qjr217c and the craftsman posted by gdocktor3 these fall short of torque rating, as I want something that will go up to at least 40NM

You've rejected digital but Eclatorq makes fantastic short torque wrenches that meet all of your torque requirements and is exactly 270mm long. Here's a picture of a max 85NM model. They make even shorter ones that go up to 60NM. These are spectacular torque wrenches. They have 9 memory presets and a Christmas tree light arrangement that makes sneaking up on the torque much easier than normal for a single light setup. Ecaltorq is the manufacturer of Mac's digital torque wrenches. I sell Eclatorq you can PM me if interested.
