Does anyone know where in the St. Louis area I can either hire shot blasting or rent the machine to do it myself? You can e-mail me off line if you prefer at:

No personal experience in St. Louis, but here's a link that you might be interested in:

The Blue Book of Building & Construction

The blue book is kind of like a construction industry specific yellow pages. It doesn't list every company in your area that would do this kind of work but it will give you a starting point.

I rented mine from Sunbelt in Joliet, Il. Here's a Sunbelt near St Louis. Maybe they have one

When I was re-doing the floor in the Garagenous Zone, I tried to rent a shot blaster from the local rental stores. Most of them didn't have them, but the one or two large outfits that did said they wouldn't rent it to me unless I could prove somehow that I had used one before. Now, aside for the apparent idiocy of such a policy (eventually all the people who had used these would die off with no one else there to replace them), it turned out that I really didn't need to prep my floor with one anyway- I just sanded it with a power sander and all was well. But the experience of trying to rent one was surreal, at least where I live.

You might consider whether or not your floor really needs shot blasting to prepare it. It turns out mine didn't, but YMMV because of its specific condition, like existing epoxy on it, etc.
