Not the Ozzy song.......................................I'm looking for info on a 1942 Ford G8T 1-1/2 ton truck. I bought one to restore and I'm having a helluva time finding metal panels and weather stripping. I've got a copy of Hemmings Motor News and seem to have the major suppliers but nothing for a ton an a half much less a 42. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Big truck cabs are the same as 1/2 tons.
The cabs are nearly the same from 40-47 with very little differences, 42-47 are the same.

Thank you Sir. That's the first definitive answer I've gotten on 4 different boards. 3 of them specific to restoring or ford.

Do you restore cars?

I see guys on the TV show "My Classic Car" who say that they can make weather stripping for any car. You might want to check into that show's website and find their advertisers and see who they are. Or just GOOGLE them. Ecklers makes them.

My direct experience is with the 61-66 body style. I know the cabs were the same from the 1/2 ton on up to the big trucks. Glass, trim, weather stripping, repair panels were all the same.

There can be a difference on the front sheet metal. I know some of the fenders had larger wheel openings on the bigger trucks, bigger inner fenders, slight variation on the hoods, front core support can be different.

I'm guessing much of this will hold true for the older models as well. My point is that most parts will interchange, just keep an eye out for subtle differences.

You might want to check out steelsoldiers.com and all will be revealed! Honestly they are a great resource.

The guys are right, 40-47 trucks use the same cab for 1/2 ton on up. The fenders and frames are different. Windshield seals are the same for all, there are no door seals as such, just a typical windlace around the door gap on the interior of the cab and then there is a rubber lower door seal. You will find that the primary differences in all of the cabs in that range of years is that the 42 (I think) and up use door glass that has a metal edge on it and the 42 and up cabs have a hole in the cab corner for the fuel filler neck. You're fortunate that so much of the hardware on the 40-47 Fords is the same regardless of the weight.

Guys. Thanks for the links. I have a couple, HMVF is one I already spoke of and another I deleted last night due to the lack of traffic. It's amazing a garage board has this much more knowledge than site specific boards. Y'all Rock!
