Should I be worried about heat build up?

My garage has a finished drywall ceiling. There are three fixtures with 100W bulbs in the generic ceramic light sockets n the ceiling. Each light fixture mounts to a metal electrical box wired to code. My trusses are made from 2 x 4's.

My question is ... should I be worried about heat build up / fire potential above the lights if I put boards down in the attic above the garage?

There isn't much space between the between the electrical box and the flooring above.

Thanks,
Spud

I hope not. If that will create a problem then lots of us are in trouble.

I presume you've got insultation up there? The insultation should insulate the boards from the heat.

If the light was inside the fixture, tucked up into the ceiling, then I would want to know how hot it was getting.

If you're concerned about heat, then consider a big CFL or a big LED. Little or no heat.

These the same 100w bulbs and ceramic fixtures they have been making and using for 100 years? Have many porcelain fixtures and 100w bulbs without issues, and been using them for many moons.
