Should I buy another Hex socket set? (OCD GJ'ers unite)

My first allen/hex socket was the Sears Evolve brand.
I broke the size 6 socket.

Since then, I got an extra long Tekton hex socket set
The long set really flexes on a tough bolt.
So, I only use this when I have to. (or need #6)

I also have Sunex stubby Impact hex sockets
I was using the #6 stubby impact on a stubborn bolt,
and almost felt like the black impact was too soft and was going to shear.

So, I still use the Evolve set for most situations.
But that missing #6.
I wish I could just get a size 6 Evolve hex socket.

I am tempted to buy a whole new $15 basic set, and dump the Evolve.

Anything from here?

What's a "#6"?

If you mean 6mm, just buy a Snap On individual in that size and see what all the hubbub is about...

You've tried 3 "value" sets and seem to be disappointed. The Sunex and Tekton did not fail though? What's the issue?

HAHAHA "I started with **** brand X and broke it! Now what other cheap ones should I get?"

These are my favorite threads hands down.

I have been eyeing up the Gray Pneumatic set, I have several of their other offerings and like them a lot.

I believe the sets from Vim tools get good reviews.. I'm not sure about this, but I believe they may get rebranded and sold under the Mac Tools brand. You'd have to ask someone else to confirm that though..

am i the only one who reads threads like this and thinks: "what the hell is he using that #6 hex socket on?"

i mean, he is getting advice on replacing a socket, but maybe he really needs advice on what he is doing with those hex keys . . . . . . . .

sorry, i'll just go back to the drinking . . . . . .

williamtic's brother? a #6? :lol_hitti

FWIW, we use snap on and sk at work, regular length and long length to break loose SHCS screws with blue and red loctite on them.

If you wanted a comprehensive set I would look into the VIM kits, as others have said they have great reviews.

Why not just buy a individual 6mm and put your set back together?

Evolve is cheaper craftsman then the real stuff, probably doesn't take much to snap one. I've broken 6mm hex trying to loosen bicycle stem bolts.
I'll jump on the bondhus bandwagon, totally worth the extra and it isn't a lot extra. I convinced the company to donate some sets to the bicycle clinic and used my own money to buy the rest because of how much bicycles use them and it was the one spot we could afford some of the best.

If they aren't out of your price range, try Grey Pneumatic. I've sold them for 10 plus years, hard to beat imo.

I have the folding hex key sets.

In years none have mushed or snapped off. It does help I sought out quality based on what others have and what survived.

Current sets are Truper and Eklind. Both brands are holding up great.

The question I have is what happened after the socket broke? How much time did you lose? That's why part timers like me can justify better tools. Think about it.

Heavy equipment tech, use hex almost exclusively, harbor freight impact and chrome. Never broken any of them and I've tried.

Not sure of warranty. I don't have the receipt as it was one of the first tools I ever bought 5 years ago.

In fact, this is one of the only tools I have ever broken.

I also broke my 3/8" ratchet after using it as a breaker bar and hammering on it.
I now have actual 3/8" and 1/2" breaker bars with no ratchet.

I can get a loose 6mm for $5, but at that point, I can get a whole set for $15.
So, I will probably do that. But, at $15, how much more to get a bonafide upgrade from C-man caliber is the question. I will price out the Bondhus, etc.

The Tekton long bits and Sunex impact bits have not broken.
They just don't see "heavy duty" for their respective reasons.

Rather than ranting on here, check the warranty. If it is life, I don't think you need a bill for Sears brands.

Evolve is lower than c-man caliber.

I don't understand how your logic and thought process work. You can't have everything the best. Some cheap stuff can work for the odd job. But when you buy a crapper and it breaks, shouldn't something click like "I need better quality"?

Why buy 5 **** sets, with that money you could have some decent stuff.

Grow a pair, make some decisions without always asking silly questions on here

Bondhus, VIM, Wiha etc... They're hex keys, even pricey ones aren't that much.

Edit: I read hex keys, my point stands though. Any of those brands won't be too awfully expensive and will last the average user somewhere in the neighborhood of forever.
