You won't ise them often, but when you do, they are handy. When I worked for Nissan/Infiniti they were very handy on exhaust nuts.

Honestly there not really a necesity for general use, but, I have a deep 18,19,21mm that I couldn't do without. You may also just use a universal w/ a deep socket...

Aside from shallow, I've only even found the need for a semi-deep 21mm. But that's for strut nuts on one particular car. (VW Sharan/variants.)

Personally, i wouldn't put them high on the list of prioities.

I bought a set of them on clearance for $10 from HF but I doubt I will ever really need them.

Now i'm sure that will change one day but this isn't it.

i find them handy for bellhousing bolts that have and integrated stud (ie 18mm head bolt with a 10mm stud protruding from the hex head for ground cable attachment)

i have also used them for nuts on exhaust

+1 on the exhaust and trans bolts.

I also like them for starter bolts, when you need a a slim set up to get by the motor and block, some times when you try using a impact universal joint with a deep socket, the uni joint can be a little to fat for tight quarters. I own both SO and sunnex. The SO are for special applicatiions and only certain sizes, and the sunnex are for every thing else. One other benefit is when used with a locking extension, you have less chance of pulling apart the assembly as you would with snapping individual tools together to make the same configuration, The 3/8 deep swivel impact go for $121.00

Do you work on VW/Audi, by any chance?

no i hate working on vw/audis and usually overprice the estimates to ensure i see them few and far between (and when i do see them im compensated for it)

mostly gm's with a few chryslers, fords and misc asian imports
