Hello all, just want the consensus on a deal I think. Local pawn shop is selling a used Bosch GCM12SD - 15 Amp 12 Inch Corded Dual-Bevel Sliding Glide Miter Saw, it functions and looks good for around $340.

Do I need it? Not really because I already have a 12' Dewalt and a 7 1/4" Hitachi slider miter saws but the Bosch would replace these 2! At least in my eyes they will.

So, pass on the deal or get it? I'm not starving but also not made of money so there's that.

Thanks.

I have that miter saw, bought at Costco five years or so ago for around $500-ish as I recall. It’s a terrific saw and it’s done some nice work around my house.

If I didn’t have a miter saw the one you’ve found might be a good deal. Since you already have two saws, including another 12-inch one, I’d probably pass on the Bosch.

I would get it. Never know when you need to cut 3 things at once. OR....sell the dewalt (even though a great saw).

It is a 650 dollar saw but you can use at a wall station without having to come out 4 feet from the wall.

The dual axial slide is what makes them nice.

Hitachi (metabo) has a slide where the bars are forward and it stays tight to a wall but they are kinda junk and the height of cut is not anywhere near the dewalt.

I bought one new for 300 bucks when they were phasing out hitachi for metabo bit havent gotten it out yet. Very mixed reviews.

The bosch gets great reviews and is the one I wanted.

Yolo bro do it!

Curiously, is your Bosch just more functional due to saving space or is space all you really benefit from compared to another 12" miter saw

In my mind the Bosch will turn me into Norm Abram!

I am a contractor and have had both 10 and 12 inch fixed and the sliders. Honestly I don't really like the sliders they don't really cut that well even if they're a good one. The blade still walks and you're better off with just your fixed ones. If you need to make a long cut your kind of down to using a circular saw the way the cut and the curf of the blade goes through the wood. I'm sure there are plenty of guys that love them. I've just found them to be sort of disappointing. They're okay for being in a shop where you're not going to move them and bump them. But once they go on a job site they're pretty fragile and don't really cut that great.

Pass. Or buy it and sell it for a profit.
I have it and I thought when I got it I’d get an elevated feel of superiority when using it. But it feels like my 99 dollar delta. Plus it’s so expensive I’d never take it to a job site. It’s nice as a shop saw but I’d keep your two

That is the Bosch Glide, an excellent slider.

I would take a straight edge, some feeler gauges a good square and check out a couple of things first. Is the center table flat, is the entire base flat (across the wings and the center table) is the rear fence straight, is the rear fence perpendicular to the table. With the blade extended, does it deflect very much left or right if you push on it. Things like that

Bosch Glide versus the Festool Kapex

I never had a problem with accuracy on my Bosch Glide. Ya, I guess if you force the blade over as your pulling it out...

I would try to talk them down a little and if it checks out I would jump on it and sell the Dewalt. I would probably keep the hitachi for times you might need to take the saw with you to a project. I have the 10in glider and have used in on a lot of projects around the house and it cuts very accurate by my standards. Not sure why people don’t think slide/glide saws can’t be accurate as you can lock them from extending and just use it as a chop saw.

Thanks, good video and lets me know I don't really need to spend almost $400 to gain an extra 10 inches of space since it would sit in my shed/workshop. An impulse buy for sure but must resist!
