Should I fix this Snap-On MG725?

So I found a nice Canadian Gray Pro top chest on Kijiji, and went and picked it up from a young auto mechanic earlier today. Along with a bunch of nugatory cheap sockets, it came with this damaged MG725. I was happy with the box alone for the price, but since my CP 1/2" is starting to **** out, I was quite pleased with this extra. Its obviously stuck in forward rotation, but works wonderfully otherwise. To me, it looks like all I'll have to do is replace the valve and related parts, but I'm wondering if anyone has done this, and if its worth it...? Are parts expensive for these things, or should I have a pro do it?

It's less than $150 flare rate to rebuild if I remember right. They reprint it and everything

They replace what's necessary, sometimes that includes a new housing. Myself, I would only fix it if it didn't need a lot and I did the repairs. The direction valve isn't much. Otherwise you'd be better off getting rid of it and just buying a good working one as far as cash output goes, for what you'd be ending up with, unless they're going to replace the housing and end plate too. They rarely replace the end plate when they do replace the housing is what I've seen. You can buy a really nice low use one for 200 bucks, or less. Just depends on what tickles your fancy.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I Called Snap-On Canada and the re-build rate here is $215. Needless to say, I'm just going to order the $25 worth of parts it needs and make it work again!

Yeah, unless you're just into throwing money away, just give it the parts it needs. From the looks of that picture, you might have to fight to get it out as it looks bent up into the housing. It's not difficult after that. Just be careful not to lose the detente balls when you slide that out. Those things love to take flight.
What I was saying about being in it maybe too much if you ended up paying for a rebuild: I just landed a real nice one for $170.00 They can be had in pretty nice condition for that price. Going the way you're going there's no way you'll be upside down in it.

So the parts showed up about 24 hours after I ordered them!

The old valve wasn't hard to get out, just a few tap from the rear of the gun and it slid right out.

I'm assuming this thing has had wet air through it in the past, because there was corrosion inside the valve housing. Its limited to where the detent pin lives, and not where the o-rings seal, so I think I'll be ok. A little wire brush action and some synthetic grease should fix it up.

The motor and housing aren't perfect, but seem to be in good shape. The vanes turned out to be in great shape.

So I re-assembled it, and it works great! The only thing is, the part to the right of the gun doesn't go anywhere! It's part #26, "Stop Sleeve". It doesn't match the existing part, or the little picture on the diagram, so I just used the old one to no ill-effect. I'll chalk that one up to an error at the parts place. For basically a $30 impact, I'm pretty happy...:bounce:

That's a GREAT deal! I just read this today so I didn't get to comment earlier. I bought the exact same gun brand new for $375 on EBAY shipped. It lists for $490 and the Snappy truck gets around $425 so I thought I got a good deal. That gun is an animal compared to a lot of others including older Snap Ons.

Good job...I fixed a Snap on PTR700G air ratchet that I found in the snow and it was jammed from the moisture. Took it apart, cleaned it, lubed it up, works like new! The parts list from SO helped out greatly.

I've never seen the sleeve you talked about in any older MG725. I have seen that it can just cause the inlet seal to leak in the newer ones though.

Looks like it was in pretty good shape.

That sleeve goes in the trigger and it's known as the "valve cup". The stop sleeve is the part that goes at the back of the F/R valve hole. They gave you the wrong part.
