So i was talking to my uncle who is a mechanic..and he told me no mechanic should be with out a 3/4 inch impact wrench that is under 1200ft lbs of tourqe... He went on to recoment a Ingersoll Rand 2141.. He said its great for suspension work and so on and its soo good and versatile..

Now i allready has a Ingersoll 2135TiMax so do i really need a 2141.. i mean the 2135Ti is allready around 1000 pounds so is it really worth it ??

Just looking for a second opinion before i make up my mind.. not really looking to waste that much money there not exacatlly cheap

Most cars I have owned do not have anything over 250 ft lbs..
If a gun rated for around 700 ft lbs is not loosening something then you use a 3/4" gun with even more power it's probably just going to snap

But then I don't know if you are working on really big vehicles like huge tractors or using it to building an arena :)

for passenger cars, there was no bolt that my XT7100 could not take off. but the gun got to be fit in there first. LOL

If you haven't had a need for it yet, then chances are pretty good that you don't need it. If you're servicing cars for a living, then you might need one, but as a do-it-yourself shadetree backyard mechanic, then no. If you want one just for the sake of having one, and we all know everyone here's a tool addict, then that's a different story. 3/4" drive sockets are expensive too. I'd save the money for something that would actually get used.

That generally the same answer i have been getting from everybody... I allready have a set of 3/4 inch sockets so i figured hey why not.. but in reality i doubt i'll need it.. but if i come across one used for 70-100 bucks then i'll probably pick it up.. but i would drop 800+ on it brand new... Thanks again

Just make sure you have a compressor with enough balls to handle the 3/4 impact or you are ******* your $s away.

I own full set of craftsman 3/4dr but never use impact wrench since my old job which i was heavy line and medium and heavy truck mechanic. in Dealership, i used a lot of 1/4dr to 1/2dr sockets but sometime i had to use 3/4dr sockets for bigger nuts like axle nut on dodge truck like 1 11/16 or 1 7/16 on all RWD cars like charger, 300C or else that use rear differential...

The CP 776 3/4" gun the guy used to run down the 2"+ nylocks on the lift uses 31 cfm so unless you have a big compressor it isn't going to do it. The 2 cyl Eaton was losing ground very slowly while he was using it even though it was running almost the whole time he had it on.

no. if you have to ask us instead of being unable to get a fastener loose with whatever 1/2 inch gun you have, then there's no need for one. Buy something you need or will use. Unless of course, you're just lusting after the 3/4 impact, then get it. common sense doesn't apply then.

If all you are working on is cars and light trucks (1-ton pickup type stuff and less) I'd say to save your money. I have a set of 3/4" wrenches I inherited from my grandfather that I use on equipment/tractor projects, but my 1/2" impact has more than enough torque for me. It has never refused to loosen something up for me, although I have to admit that a few times it has "loosened" things by snapping them...

Yep, I'd say 1/2 inch will give you more than you need. Even if you got a used impact fairly cheaply, then you'd have to get the impact sockets for it - which likely aren't going to be cheap.

The other thing is that my 3/4" socket set starts at 1 1/4" and I can only think of a few odds and ends on any of my cars or trucks in the 1" to 1 1/2" range. So you're either looking at having both a 1/2" and 3/4" impact or using a adapter to use the 3/4" impact on smaller sockets.

My 3/4" set came with a 2' long wrench. I haven't had much trouble breaking things loose with that.
