As someone said,,, he has a good set but the ones he uses and beats on are some junk, why bother since its obvious price is a concern, money is already an issue but have enough burning a hole in the pocket for a 300$ set of end wrenches. As was pointed out there are options as good at half the price and if it was me and really needed something I already didn't have (does what you currently own work satisfactory) the 30 piece Canadian deal looks like a winner since about 1/2 of them a guy doesn't really use anyway.
But strolling thru a flea market on a day you took off of work would pay about twice back the first day over spending some obscene amount for something you probably don't need,,, not that you wouldn't use them but chances are an option costing 10% would perform just fine.
If you really need something buy it, I still occasionally buy a few hand tools. Rarely a set anymore, last one was ratchet wrenches but pliers, occasional replacement or additional sockets when I get the feeling we are looking for something. I don't need every one but a couple heavy duty China 9/16 impact sockets tossed in to the general circulation pool will get used.
Sets are a way to keep track, they really do not follow tool use. With a few exceptions, such as maybe a engine reman removal install operation could really put the pressure on as could a tool pool in a heavy duty truck or farm shop where the use is brutal. Here we got a guy with sissy hands wondering if his tools will be up to the task and maybe only some truck brand might suffice, and the op cant afford it.
Its about like the advice about the ball joint press, a home dude with 1 project to start with should get a 400 dollar set,,, he could rent one but the right thing was to march right down to HF and score that 40$ set, will make him money on the first job, still have it when finished and it has dozens of uses, the 400 might be fine for someone in the front end service business owned by the shop but its pitiful advice for the guy asking the question.
Having said that when I had a couple bucks I bought small 6 piece snappy FD, wouldn't mind one in 5/16 and replaced a lost one or 2, they been great, I keep a better eye on them and save them for rugged use, I put all the wear and tear on the junk. Would trade a 3/4 and a 5/8 for a 1/2 and 9 or maybe even the baby 5/16.
These were bought when I could afford it and our demand was high.
