Should I repaint or replace?

My attached aluminum garage door (16x7) is looking a bit rough in the painting area. The top section is a darker brown while the lower half is a much lighter/faded brown.

How hard is it to re-paint an aluminum garage door?

I've got half a mind to just replace the door with a steel door from Menards. Then the paint job is done and one minor plus is that I can then stick things to the garage door using magnets... the wife likes to decorate the garage door for the holidays but getting anything to stick on the current aluminum door is nearly impossible.

Thoughts?

Personal choice I would say
is the rest of the door hardware in good shape? does it operate smoothly without a lot of effort? is it insulated & would an insulated door be a value plus?

painting is not difficult, just get a satin sheen as (IMO) high gloss looks like **** .

Put a steel disk in anything you want to hang with a magnet on the steel door, and put a magnet on the other side of the existing aluminum door.

I had the windowed top panel of my garage replaced with a solid panel years ago, and in order to keep costs down, I just opted to use whatever the installer had laying around... Turns out, he had a white panel, and the rest of my door was almond in color. Ended up taking an exterior paint sample to Home Depot and having them mix a satin 2-in-1 Behr exterior paint (one of the more expensive ones).

Painting it was easy - I washed the whole door with Dawn, let it dry, and then dried the joints with a towel (raising and lowering the door as necessary, manually). It's been 4 years and the paint still looks great without a single sign of chipping. No sanding, no fuss.
